Well for starters I wish I could provide you guys with pictures of my car, but it was overcast today, and tomorrow will be much of the same. Overall the black paint is in great shape, a few swirls here and there.

I will of course be doing a test spot, but given the condition of the paint, I am sure I can get away with a white pad and Optimum Polish. Here is what I was thinking.

1. Wash/Dry
2. Clay
3. IPA Wipe
4. White 6.5" CCS pad with the Makita, speed ~ 1200ish
5. Blue 5.5" CCS pad with the PC
6. Well, you tell me given the products at my disposal.

My selection is not huge by any means, so I was thinking I would finish things off with Natty's blue by hand.

I more than welcome any comments and suggestions. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks!

IPA wipe after claying is useless, do it after polishing ;)

But you do recommend washing the entire vehicle again after Claying, right ?

I've read some guys use Dove Dishwashing Soap as their Preliminary Wash Detergent.

Then before the Sealant and/or Wax sequence, go over the whole vehicle with I.P.A.

Rubber Gloves on, with a Micro-Fibre Towel soaked in I.P.A.

Did I get that right ?

Why is it best to I.P.A. the entire vehicle, instead of just washing it again? Is it because of the solvents in the Swirl Remover Liquids ? What if you have Dust and spent Swirl Remover Product lying on your Paint. Aren't you going to scratch the Paint, again ?

You could re-wash it during the claying process.

:iagree:

The IPA is to remove any residual residue left over from the polish. Also, by removing all residuals, you will see all the swirls/scratches, so that you can go back over it and permanently remove them.

If it's real bad, you could re-wash it, otherwise an IPA will suffice.

Have you used the rotary before?

Yes. In fact I learned on a rotary and that's all I have ever used ... the PC is brand new to me.

I was thinking since I was only going to clay the horizontal surfaces, an IPA wipe would be needed for the rest of the car. In any event, I will do the wipe after polishing is complete.

Any thoughts on finishing? I know I have have a couple choices in my arsenal. Maybe the EX-P by machine with a finishing pad rather than the Nattys?

Looking back at my original post, I guess I should mention I wanted to use Optimum Polish with a white pad, followed by 85RD with the blue pad.

Ok, this is something new to me (just getting started in this so please don't kill the FNG). Assuming IPA is for IsoPropyl Alcohol what are the advantages in using this after the polishing step? Will any grain work or do you use a specific kind/quality/brand? What are the best practices for using it? I've just never heard of this proceedure done before, but I guess it's good to learn things everyday!
