Poor Little Camaro- Its Ashame...

Not to pick on Chevy guys, but this is Ford reclaiming it's throne and keeping it after the LS1 Camaro's wiped the streets with the then new 4.6 SOHC Mod motored Mustangs. It took Ford a while to catch up as the P.I. headed cars still had a tough time with those LS powered Camaro's from 1998-2002. Now, based on GM edict... I highly doubt the ZL1 will come close to the performance of the Z06 or ZR1 based on pricing stand point and the higher end Corvettes being Chevy's "halo" cars. A 2013 GT500 is a closer comparo to a Z06, and if it were more aero it would be a very close contender to the ZR1.

Throw a CAI, SC pulley and tune on the 500 and see what it can really do

Neither of those cars are my cup of tea, but its been clear for a while that the Ford was going to smoke the Chevy in strait line performance.

I'm curious what the differences will be around a closed course.

That's what the Laguna Seca is for

That's what the Laguna Seca is for

Yeah, and the Laguna Seca barely kept up with the ZL1 in Motor Trend's comparison a few months back. The ZL1 is supercharged and has 136 more horsepower at the flywheel...

When it comes to American cars my family has usually bought GMs. But the last buy was a Ford Expedition, and I was a Camaro guy and its still a great car...
BUT I will take a Mustang any day of the week :xyxthumbs:

On a side note, since we're talking about Shelby, the Shelby factory and museum is located near the Las Vegas Speedway. If ever in Vegas, check it out. Very cool place. Museum open to the public free! Cobra #1 is on display there.

Sorry for the hijack -- back to original programming!

I've always been a GM fan, but these new Mustangs got my vote any day of the week.

I know I'm gonna get ripped but it's not all about HP. Ford is still using old school tech in their suspension and only adding more power. Sooner or later that straight axle isn't going to handle it anymore. And GM is working on a track based camaro that will compete with the GT. they were just waiting for ford to counteract like they always do ;) the 1LE Camaro will feature a LS7 motor.

Also like to say that I'm not bashing the mustangs in anyway. I love the looks of them and I must admit that I just like muscle cars in general. ;)

All I have to say is that this has been going back an forth since they were introduced. When the new camaro was brought back it was making 415hp compared to the mustangs low 300s (i don't know the exact number) then ford introduced the 5.0 making i think 410hp but since the mustang is lighter it was quicker. one main thing about the zl1 is that it is made to go around a track an not just in a straight line. the suspension tech in the zl1 is amazing. Yes the Gt500 makes more power but like someone else said its using old tech. having a solid rear axle is rare in a sports car nowadays. I guess what im trying to say is that there is never going to be a clear winner because there will always be something better coming out next.....

Also I don't think you can compare a Mustang to a Corvette IMO :dblthumb2:

FORD they know what they are doing........not only the Mustang.

SOHC ftw.

I'd still pull on that mustang in my Z06.. :xyxthumbs:

Not a big ford fan in case you couldn't already tell.
