Poorboy's Trim Restorer- Process pics

I've been using Black Again. Just used PB TR for the first time. PB TR took a lot less elbow grease to wipe off and shine up.

Well so far my predictions are right ... the fender flares are too far gone. I went out to see the results today and the trim restorer just absorbed into the plastic. They are far too porous for this product to work. In fact, it doesn't mention anywhere on Trim Restorer is designed to fix faded trim -- it is meant for cleaning, not fixing faded trim.

Here is what I was greeted this morning:

Well I have to keep going to see if I can get it to stay black:

And here is a trim piece by the window that I applied ONE coat of TR using the applicator that had the product left on it. This was very faded but not as porous. TR works best on grainy trim and not on smooth rubber.
Anyways, here is the passenger side (untouched):

And the drivers side that I applied one coat to last night:

I too went over this piece again after the pictures because I guess I didn't get into the edges that well...

I'm in the same boat as you with my wifes bumpers and trim. They were originally Grey and now are fading very badly. I've tried almost everything out there. I can dress it, but in no time its absorbed.

Mike- did you ever protect them with anything? I guess this is what I get for not taking care of them in the past... but then again they are nearly 9 years old. So I guess the only thing left to do to them is to dye them, paint, or replace...

I think that the dye will have the same effects of the Trim Restore, it'll just absorb it all until it is saturated. Painting may do the trick... but I'm not sure how long that'd last.... or replacing would work but $$$.

painting or dyeing will work..but for how long??..since the TR has a silicone oil in it and may inhibit the proper bonding of both the dye and paint...some have done the Forever black dye after using silicone trim products only to have the dye lift after awhile...there was a thread on here about it also...where it was peeling off...

there is a prodcut called Gator Back that is suppose to work great..GM is using it to correct the fading of the Avalanche panels...

No, her car saw no love before I started taking care of it. I even have tried "Forever Black" with no luck.

Just an update for this thread... as you see in the above pictures I applied one final coat on the 23rd and 6 days later it is still black! I was away all weekend and am happy with the results. There was one day of rain over the weekend and no streaking so far. I'll get a picture tomorrow.

Hope it holds up OK. PB TR is one of the easiest to use and for that reason would be a good "go to" trim product if the durability holds. Please keep us posted.

So far so good Jimmie. I was a little concerned that I wouldn't get any results because of the product soaking into the fender but I am very satisfied with the results. I've tried TR before on the fenders but only one coat so I was a little disappointed. Thankfully I decided to try it again and kept going with the coats until I got the results I was looking for. The fender flare looks brand new and is not greasy at all... just a plastic feeling. It reminds me of the finish Bold and Bright gives off, great look but you can't even feel the product on there. Well here are the pictures:

Yah! That's great. PB TR it is. Thanks for the follow-up.

I have had the same results on my '04 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with the fender flares and mirrors, GREAT STUFF!!!!

why not apply tire shine to the black trim pieces? ;)

Because all that does is make the tires look shiney and most of them leave that greasy residue. Trim Restorer is designed to clean and restore trim without leaving any residue behind.... tire shine won't clean the plastic either.

budman3, I'm glad it work out for you. That Jeep I done, I had to use dye. They look great.

Here is another update. It has been raining off and on for the past 3-4 days with steady rain today. When it is dry it looks just a tad lighter but here is what it looks like:
