Poorboy's World Detailing Weekend 2012

Nice pictures Bobby!! Looks like you were having fun. A bunch of nice folks there Huh? Nice work on the escape! How was the turnout? I see GUS GUS hovering over the hot dog stand. That used to be my position at the PBWDW. A good time for sure, I'd like to make it there again in the future sometime.

Some additional thoughts.....

Attendees:

Saturday - 5
Sunday - 5

Unfortunately the numbers were low and it may have been due to the hot weather on Saturday. The temp hit close to 100 degrees and the humidity was also up there making it pretty darn challenging. We were fortunate enough to have a portable tent to work under, sort of portable shade! I kept the cold water close by in a cooler I brought but PoorBoy's also had a large cooler handy with ice and water too.

Because I'm relativity new to PoorBoy's World products, and my son-in-law new to detailing period, I was hoping for maybe a 30 minute seminar or tutorial on their products, their application, and intent.

Please don't misunderstand me, there was plenty of technical assistance from Steve and Chris but you sort of started off and had to be self motivating.

I think the 2 day event was worth the drive. If I were to make any recommendations it would be to offer each attendee an 8 ounce sample selection of their product line to take home as a promotional gift for attending. This would allow a person to try different PoorBoy's World products at their own pace at home seeing what they bring to the detailing game.

PoorBoy's World products are quality products and make no mistake about it, they are a player. PoorBoy's World products have been available for less than 10 years and for a small company have quite a following, and for good reason.

To promote their products during a PoorBoy's World local event I'd include:

  1. Introduction about PoorBoy's World
  2. Structured usage of each product
  3. Instructional demonstration of their products
  4. Tour of their facility
  5. Product samples for each attendee to take home
  6. Special show pricing for all PoorBoy's World products

Bobby, I've been to a couple of these, and they are always more of a "hangout" day rather than a structured training or product demo.

When the turnout is low as you describe, Poorboy Steve always threatens to never do these things again.

Your list of suggestions is good, although I thought he usually does have some "show" pricing.

:iagree:

I think if they approached the event with set goals in mind it would foster some semblance of structure. When people / customers view their efforts as professional and well thought out prior to the event then this would better promote PoorBoy's World in the eyes of the customer.

While talking to Steve I inquired about show pricing. Steve said that if the turnout was greater he would have offered discounted prices but since the turnout was so small he wouldn't....this made absolutely no sense to me at all and in fact should have been the exact opposite...

Steve gets pretty grumpy over these things, and I sympathize. It's just him and Pockets, and it's a lot of work setting everything up and breaking it down, that he's only able to accomplish with (his inner circle of) volunteers. At the end of the day, he usually doesn't sell too much product or add too many customers, so it winds up being more of a social event, and we all know how much work it is throwing a big party!

Poorboys has me as a customer. My next purchase will be some of the products used at the detail weekend. Power polish, SSR 2 & 2.5 and EXP. some good stuff.
