"Pop" on silver paint

I realize it's a tough color to pop. But even the "sealant look" isn't really coming. Haha maybe I'm just so used to my past darker colored vehicles that this one just isn't ever gonna get there. But I was thinking there must be something that would enhance the gloss. If even for just the day it's applied.

If your budget allows I would get Polish Angel High Gloss. That is loaded with Tio2 which is very reflective.

Do you like the crisp look or the more carnuaba glow look?

What I liked on my silver metallic car was Ultima Paint Guard Plus. It's gets you the glowing sealant look. For a more crisp looking either Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer or the longer lasting Polymer Net Shield PNS. And one that gets really crispy look is Gyeon Wet Coat.

Of course you will only get the slightest difference to the look. But I noticed well when you try different LSP on the same car.

I like the more glowing looks. So I have bought Polish Angel Esclate Lotion and Master Sealant combo and to top it down the road High Gloss. Have not been able to try it out yet. As I wanted to do a polishing first. And have played around with other toppers not sold on AGO.

You might be looking at this from the wrong perspective due to the color. As many have said you won't ever get the "pop" found on darker colors.

Silver and even some gray paint is all about reflections and highlighting the styling of the body pannels, so the best approach is to make the paint look as crisp, clean, and shiny as possible. Getting into a routine where your are claying (decon) the paint and polishing will go a long way to achieving the result. From there I'd recommend a good coating simply because I feel they offer a much more glassy shine which will accentuate the silver paint.

"Pop" on silver paint

Much as others have said, paint prep, you mentioned you used 360... Good start. Then is this a metallic flake silver? How much metallic will determine light refraction.
Silver can pop, but as others have said, darker colors will reflect more light.

Maybe post a picture of your silver truck so we can see, just hearing about it isnt giving me a good idea. A picture is worth 1000 words.

The key to silver is the polish. Coatings certainly help and add a nice property to it but so long as the clear is perfectly clear with no scratches it will look great. I like CarPro Essence. Does a great job of polishing out light swirls and on top of some SiO2 properties it does add in some fillers that work at a microscopic level to really ensure light reflection.

I also think a big part of the overall "pop" is to properly address the trim and accents. That contrast and a job well done on both really makes them stand out. Here are a few Silver ones I've done.

If you go with a sealant, FK1000P is very nice on silver. Acrylic spray waxes like Ultimate Acrylic Spray Wax also work very well in making silver paint pop.

Agreed. Here's an EVO I topped with FK1000p. Also did an 80s Porsche (silver) topped with FK and looked good as well.

•Here are a couple of my Sealant suggestions:
-Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant
-Finish Kare 1000P
-SON1C Wax Carnaubavore

Carnaubavore is a sealant? Didn't know. I have it, never used it. It smells so good :)

I'll eventually try the Wolfgang sealant. Well, after I order it, I mean.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned bead maker yet, seeing that is the new craze lol

haha...I was going to say the same thing

Back on topic silver is not going to have that wow factor like a dark color. Needs the right light.

Lighting is key :)

Carnaubavore is a sealant?
Based on how it is described below...
perhaps I should of called it a “hybrid”
of sorts—a “Hybrid Sealant”?

On my Glacier Silver BMW , Mezerna 3800 with 2 coats of Chemical Guys 50/50 wax.
I firmly believe that the multiple layers of wax enhances the “pop”.
Definitely all in the prep work.

That silver definitely looks great! What ever happened to Drew (I'm assuming that's Son1c)?? I haven't seen him on here for years. Is he still making wax? Last time I checked on the AG page I think they only had one of his waxes.

Hybrid Sealant works for me. I remember that being one of his first waxes. That, along with the name "Carbaubavore" - I guess I thought it was more of a natural wax.
Thanks for clearing that up.

The hood looks nice! Is it Wolfgang on there?

Drew/Son1c is doing other things, like family life, and some racing (autoX, maybe).

His last wax that I know of, Amethyst, was done in 2016.

Thanks, I assumed he quit doing it. Extremely time consuming. Doing the small batches he was doing couldn't have been very cost effective, not to mention the amount of time testin, etc.

I like to believe that after the initial R&D, things got easier for him. Tweak something here, add something there, and you have a different formula.

I'm sure the profit was good, too.

He's got a massive thread of how he started to where he was happy with a wax on AG. Tons of reading. It almost got me to try my hand at it ! ! ! ! !

Dodo Juice might still be making the "home brew" kits as well.

Dark colors look best in full sun light, but light colors specifically white and silver look best in low light conditions either a cloudy day or just before sunset. If you are looking at your silver vehicle in full on sun light it will always look dull and lifeless. You need the right light assess the paint and shine.

Gteq EXO ceramic on wife’s Lexus IS350 with SIO touchup monthly works nice. My Cayman S has Duragloss on it with Aqua wax topper ( the EXO ceramic/SiO gets the slight edge on “pop”)
