I work at a Mercedes/Volvo dealership, as a parts advisor and I see stuff that would knock you down, you'd be so shocked! I used to work at a BMW/Mini dealers, 10 years ago, in the parts dept, but service porter/detailer before that. Our service dept has a power car wash with brushes

and the handwashes are probably just as bad. I shake my head when I see the process they use here:
hand wash: 1)hose down car
2) grab a dirty cheap mitt that has been used all day in a bucket of soapy water, that's been used ALL day.
3)wash car, hose off
4)SAME mitt to clean wheels and tires
5)water blade to remove bulk of water, then a cheap synthtic chamois that is used on everything from, drying cars, wheels, tires, wiping off dashboards, to getting dropped onto the cement floor.
Keep in mind, this is a MERCEDES dealership and this is nothing new, very common practices. Dealerships are in the business of selling cars, get in, get out, as quickly as possible. The detailers are NOT given the quality products or the TIME required to do the necessary work. Again, I work in the parts dept, but I have several clients who purchase their vehicles here, service them here and are loyal to the store here, but have gotten my contact info by word of mouth. I have NO intention of taking customers or work from my employer, I would never even consider seeking out customers from our current clients, as I don't even do detailing as a business...it's more of pleasure for me. I don't make money detailing, as I spend far too much time of a car, not uncommon for me to have a clients car two days because I take my time, I'm not doing it as a job. If I was to buy a new car, I would make it PERFECTLY clear, NO ONE IS TO TOUCH MY CAR other then the PREP
