Porsche GT3 RS What you do with it?

Is it difficult to get into the racing scene professionally? I'm interested in it, but I don't think it can support a family in the long run especially if you start losing heh. Do you have to have your own ride too?

Getting in to racing is really not real difficult but it takes a lot of money. So if you are young and don't have much money it will be next to impossible unless you know someone involved in racing that will help you out.

Gary are you in to racing? Seems as though you got some friends that are hard core in to racing, I would imagine your in with them? Just wondering that's all.

Carlos, I really enjoy driving a car on the track but I have never had thoughts about being a real race car driver. I have been to race car driving school twice and I have been to a lot of track days at Sebring. I do it because it's something I enjoy and I always have a lot of fun. It's a great experience and you really improve your driving skills. It's also very costly and I'm not even talking about the price of the car. I do love cars and I love going fast. I like going to races and just love being around the cars. I do have 3 good friends that are really hard core into racing. That's usually all we talk about is cars and racing. I'm not up to their level in terms of my driving skills but I've never hit the wall.

I've been meaning to go to a race car driving school, I don't think we have any around me at the moment (I could be wrong) but I'd be willing to fly over somwhere I'm assuming the US and take some leasons. I agree with you about the improving of your driving skills.

Thanks for sharing Gary oh yea I hear you on the enjoyiment of being around vehicles...I'm the same way...slowly I'll start my collection of fast vehicles ;)

Carlos, I went to Panoz Racing School at Sebring. They were just recently brought out by Skip Barber. One of my friends has taken some Skip Barber corses and had good things to say about them. They are big in the US. I don't know about Canada. I know they offer corses at a lot of tracks in the US including Homestead and Sebring in Florida.

Some people work their way up, but usually either money (theirs or family etc) or sponsors. Though I don't care for drift racing at all, take Hulk and his son, b/c of their money and connections he was able to compete (with a Viper non the less) which made plenty of people pissed off b/c majority in that scene work their way on up from cars they built and maintained themselves with not much money etc.

Love the GT3RS, especially in Black with Orange, but kinda disappointed in the difference on track, just slightly better then GT3. I'd personally take a regular GT3 and send it to Manthey for some goodies :D

I don't think Skip Barber uses Vipers anymore do they? I know they have the SRT-8 Jeep there now, which is a f'n blast, fun friggen truck. Love racing, building the biz to the point where I can just race and race 24/7 lol. I'd kill to compete in Alms or the like.

edit - hell, he soulda just bought a Cup Car :D

I like the Black and Orange GT3 RS the best too. I would never pay want they have been going for ($50,000 over MSRP). There's one on ebay with GT2 Racing Seats full harness and a roll cage. There's also another one with sport seats with orange stiching that looks very good. The MSRP of a GT3 RS is only about $10,000 more then a normal GT3. The GT3 RS is lighter, the rear end is 6" wider the wing is much better. I would pay $10,000 more for an RS but that's about it. Since they only made a limited no. of RS for 2007 only there prices have been crazy. Even the regular GT3 has been going for about $10,000 over MSRP. For 2008 the are only import about 100 GT3's to the US. My friend who purchase the RS has a regular 2007 GT3 I could get from him at a very good price. It only has 2,000 miles on it and is his personal car. Now that he got the RS he is going to sell it. Here's a picture of it. I wish it was black.

In the last Skip Barber class one of my friends took at Homestead they used an open wheel Formula type car like the one below.

They also use some Mazda Miatas. Even though they recently brought out the Panoz Racing Shools they are not going to use any of the Panoz cars. I was taking to I guy I know who worked for Panoz last month when I was at Sebring and he said you could buy one of the Panoz cars from the school for $10,000 or less.

Their comanding nice premiums though, could swear I saw a couple listed at 190K. Black/Orange looks wicked. Personally I'd get a used GT3, strip it, and send it to Manthey for goodies and setup :righton:

Hmmm somebody told me Jeep SRT-8 was added to SB's school, but looks like they have no SRT vehicles or Viper anymore?

Panoz rocks, always loved the Esperante and their race team is awesome. I have a good article on the family in a Forbes mag, didn't realize how diversified that family is, everything from the cars, to Real Estate, to wine, to racing horses etc. Are you serious...you can grab one of the Esperante race cars for 10K???

Panoz is still making cars they just sold off the racing school because it was loosing money. I talked to buzzy who ran the Panoz racing school at Sebring and he told me you can pick one of the modified Esperante cars they used at the school for about 10K. Maybe even less. They just want to get rid of them.

Hmmmmmm :D

I personally really liked their street cars, they used the 4.6 Cobra engine and had a model with the s/c'd Cobra engine, plenty of mods obviously, and the light weight made for a crazy fast car when modded, think they weigh 3K-3200 lbs.
