Hello all,

I have been trying to decifer what to do for awhile now, and am not really closer to a solution then when I started.

I have a 2004 black 911 with fairly decent paint, a few local scratches.. but other then that, its your standard swirls.

A friend of mine is on here and has been taking care of his cars for a couple years with great success. The problem I am finding is the worry (soft and thin clear coat on porsches) I am getting, mixed with trying to decide what is the route I should go in terms of polishes, glazes, sealants, and waxes for my car.

I believe I should only need a light to medium clay done (I will buy both, as I have a truck that can use it), and the scratches are all light (again, other then 2 that appear to be from a jacket?).


I have heard the blacklight is a good product.. other then that :dunno:
How does an anylitical person start????

Does anyone have black 996 experience? What should I use for products? I am in northern alberta, if that makes a difference, and I will not be driving the car in winter. Lastly, as I am from Canada, its sometimes difficult to get some products here.. so if anyone has a few in mind I should try, please let me know.


Thanks all, and hopefully this isnt a taboo question to be asking.. I really dont want to be spending thousands to try and find a good product for my car.

In Canada you have two options: eShine and Auto Obsessed
They're both great.

- Clay: Riccardo Blue or Yellow
- Polisher machine: Griots DA (get an 5" back plate tho).
- Pads: Lake Country 5.5" Hydro Tech pads, there are 3 colors, get 2 of each (at least)

- Polish: Meguiars 205 (first a pass with a polishing pad, second a pass with the finessing pad to bring out some extra gloss)

- Compound (If necessary): Meguiars D300

- Sealant/Wax: Your choice, there are way too many. But as a fellow Canadian, I recommend Collinite 915 (two coats) to really get you through the winter.
 
as clay i will go with fine,
if you use griots , than when you do last step finish polish just take your time to finish with no holograms/ slowly passes
most of the porsche i work on if are in need of correction i use mezerna sip follow by meguiar`s 205. sip for cutting 205 for finish/polish
do a test spot 2ftx2ft and see if 205 cuts it , if not try 205 with cutting pad , follow by 205 and poilish pad.
when correcting use some pressure on the machine and keep it moving.

I didnt say, but I was going to go with the flex orbital.. is that not advised?

Also, can the collinite 915 (same as 476s?) be applied after a sealant?


I had planned on doing a:
Wash
Clay riccardo yellow
Polish steps meg 205, and potentially something more aggressive for the rids
glaze (just to help with whatever I dont pull out for scratches, and a shine)
sealant
carnuba wax


Is that just overkill? If not, any more fill in the blanks for a black porsche?

Chris at eShine is a great guy and he's always been more than happy to answer all of my questions and even offer some tips and tricks. You won't regret dealing with him.

The above was all take on Monday night.

Then on Tuesday, when we opened for business, Steve the owner of the Porsche, stopped by and picked up all the tools, pads and products he needed to finish the car.

While he was here I took these pictures, you can see that only the small section we used to show Steve and Joe how to machine polish had been worked on at this point in time.

Now fast forward to Thursday, it's been only 3 days since Joe learned how to use a DA Polisher and he shows up at Autogeek in the afternoon to show us his results....

On Monday night during the one-on-one training session, we stuck to a "System Approach" and kept it simple. We demonstrated the Wolfgang System on Steve's Porsche and then Joe dove in head first and removed all the swirls and polished the black paint till it looks like a Black Pearl.

Nice work Joe. When I heard you were in the lobby here at Autogeek to show us your results, I thought you were here to show us your Toyota?

I assumed, (that's never a good idea), that you would tackle your Toyota first and cut your teeth on it before diving in head first and tackling a black car let alone a black Porsche Boxster S!!!!!!

Joe you did an absolutely phenomenal job especially considering this is the FIRST time you've ever used an electric polisher to remove swirls out of a clear coat finish. I don't give the Bow Emoticon out very often on any forum but you've earned it.

Does that look good/right? I am thinking the blacklight is a glaze?


I was going to make it easy on myself and get the wolfgang, but without ordering from multiple places (shipping is VERY expensive here) I could not get the wolfgang products.

If this looks pretty good, I will order my products.

Get it from eshine, free shipping on orders over $150.

I'd say skip the Blacklight/V7 and get Menzerna SF4500 for jeweling.

If you reeeeally need a glaze, Poorboys Black Hole (dark paint) or White Diamond (light colors) looks way better.

Everything else is okay.
 
Also, the Flex 3401 is great, but if you're not doing this for a living, the Griots DA Polisher is better, and you can use the saving to buy microfibers and brushes...

As for pads, you either get LC Hydro-Tech or Optimum Microfiber... Nothing else! The LC Flats and CCS are good, but they suck up too much product.
