Portable A/C unit

Has anyone used a portable a/c unit in their garage/home? I am looking at buying one for my garage and tried out this one this weekend. It worked great; it's a 13,000 BTU unit. They're plentiful on ebay right now given the time of year. It was able to get the temp down to 70 degrees and remove the humidity..that's even without the door being properly sealed. I need to buy a circular vent like the dealerships use to exhaust the engine exhaust out the door.

I got it on loan to try out from a heating and cooling place I deal with. The owner's out of town until next week so I won't know what he wants for it until then. The largest size you can go with a 110 plug is 14,000 BTU. The are on ebay and lots of other online places. The range at about $400 and up for the large one.

I will have to check into that. FL is not friendly when it comes to the heat and humidity!

it doesnt have a tube that attatches to say a window sil and maybe another clear tube to drip out the condensation? i have one in my house..and its only 10k btu and by golly is that thing loud...the room we have it in is smaller than a garage but its in open space so it really doesnt keep anything cool..which is kinda pointless, but yanno its there so we jus left it...

14k btu is well enough for the garage...

by the way..is it HOT where ur from and are u planning on converting your garage as a spot to sit and relax? or is it for detailing? reason why i ask is..they rack up the bill pretty good and im sure a few turbo fans will do the trick..?

I was looking at on at sams club this weekend, just to help knock some of the humidity out of the garage during the summer. I doubt it would even cool my garage down a degree though... As its 1200ft with a 12' ceiling.. It was around $400 and 12k BTU.. It also said that it probably wouldn't work well in extreme conditions as it was designed to be used in combination with a current central AC... So I passed for the moment.

i have a12000 btu unit in mysun room works great with ceiling fan also with house central air due to no vents in sun room all cements

I have used one the last two years in my rented room in Fairbanks when I am working. It is the best 400 dollars that I have spent to keep me comfortable. Fairbanks is not known as a hot place but when the sun is out for twenty four hours a day it does not matter if it is 80 degree's at noon or midnite. It is just hot all day. With the purchase of my A/C unit I slept comfortably whether I was working nite shift or day shift. It ran trouble free for two years. I would think if one treats it with care it will service your needs for years to come. I make sure that the fins of the colling unit remain clean. I do service it regularly.

I started with a large ceiling fan and it's ineffective..see photo below. It did have an exhaust tube BTW..it just wasn't visible in the pic..that's why I said I needed an exhaust porthole like the dealerships have to be installed in my garage door to accommodate the tube. Yes..it's very humid here due to being surrounded by water and gets into the 90's on a consistent basis all summer. The purpose will be just to cool down my work environment for the summer season...and it's well worth it for me as I sweat my a s s off when I'm doing a car!! The noise is nothing compared to my 400 watt stereo I got going kicking out the tunes! I try to make my work environment as pleasant as possible..therefore..tunes..fridge..fan..a/c..cigar.
