I'm getting to the point where I need one, suggestions please, what about that fenix head strap one, I could definitely :buffing: with that lol

I use a 99 cent unit that lowes carries. It was on blackfriday so maybe it is more now.

It has 4 LED's and it centers them tight. PERFECT for finding stuff, and checking your work. ALSO it is VERY small, and can be thrown in the pocket.

I have the brinkman, i could not detail without it. I have heard the head mounted ones eat through batteries. Have you considered a stand mounted light from Home Depot?

I actually just finished a full correction, polish, and seal while using the Fenix HL21 (big fan of Fenix btw). I found it particularly useful for inspecting results on the fly on a black vehicle and also helpful in maintaining super thin product application. Without decent lighting, especially on side panels, the inability to see the product usually leads to excessive application. Using the Fenix, I was able to see even the slightest film left behind the DA and knew the product was going on.

The only drawback was that I found myself primarily using the highest lumen setting with a bit of time using the middle one. I had to change batteries three times, but being a single AA, it really wasn't too bad.

I use a $1.00 unit.It has 7 leds. Perfect to check your work.

I have the Fenix had strap. A very useful item. In high power mode, batteries do not last but 3 hrs or so so I use rechargeable.

I'm all about work lights 2x 500w
but I'm looking for some kind of mobile / portable light, to get to places I find hard to with work lights, or just for when times I don't want the big stands
appreciate all of the input so far

I recently bough 2 500W work lights as well.

At what distance do you find is best to show defects/swirls?

depends, but usually I have them right over my shoulders so maybe ~2-3 feet? maybe at a slight angle down onto the paint, if that makes sense

or pouring sweat in the summer!

ALSO I got a PETZL Tika PLUS 2 for Christmas. 1 huge LED. VERY bright. I will be trying it out tomorrow and will let you know how she works!

If you live anywhere near Costco, you may want to consider this bad boy. It's a Coast HP 550 ($49 - but worth 2x that). It's a whopping 1,000 lumens of bright white LED light. When I saw this thing at Costco, I knew it was no ordinary flashlight. You can light it and see it there in the store. I did a little research on the company, and am watching Costco closely to see if the price drops at all. Either way, I'll probably pick it up. It takes 9 AA batteries.

Just for comparison, I think a Brinkmann Tuff Max is around 330 lumens.
