Porter Cable and Color Sanding

I have a Porter Cable on the way and I am hoping that I can color sand with it. I don't mind having to go up to 3000. I have my friends black Honda Accord that got painted and she said "look I got a new paint job!" It had nothing but orange peel. it looked really Macco (super ugly). I said oh I could fix it. My new machine is coming on Wed. She said ok sound good.

My question is with the Porter Cable is it possible to take off the orange peel?

i called customer service and they said "yes" but I will have to go all the way up to 3000 which I don't mind. Because it is so easy to buff out 3000.

has anyone color/wet sanded with a Porter Cable?
 
I couldn't find the video on youtube but the only way to really know is either go ask the painter (don't know the guy or who he is) or get that electronic measurer. (Forgot the name)

The way we did it at the shop was to basically eyeball it and go little by little. 3 coats of clear was the Norm

So I am planning on sanding with the 1500 (very lightly) and finish it with 3000 and just make it look more presentable. (Color sand blend)

It's just a favor so the only thing I have to do is not mess it up.

Which I think i can pull off with a Dewalt but have never used a Porter Cable. According to the customer service I will have to go up to 3000.
 
I feel like i can go up to 2500 by wet sanding I just hope the Porter Cable can take me to the finish line. 3000>Buff>Polish>Wax
 
You can damp sand with the da and the unigrit discs from Meg's. If you want to go that road. If your going to wet sand then it would be best to go to the 3000 grit to finish.

What pad and product coombo are you going to use to remove the sanding mark?
 
Do you plan on removing the 3000 grit sanding marks with the Porter Cable?If so that wouldnt be the best option. Your dewalt would be better.

Or

Are you referring to putting sanding disc on the porter cable to sand?

Here is a video that mike did in November at about the 20 min mark is when he goes into damp sanding the body of the car. :props:
 
From now what I am planning on doing is wet sanding up to 2500 and then damp sanding with my porter cable. I would like to damp sand 100, 1500, 2000,2500 am 3000 but they are to expensive. So 3000 damp sand for me.
 
Yes I'll use 3000 with the porter cable. Sorry all this lingo is kinda throwing me off but I'll learn.
 
I bought the poor boys porter cable kit, but went and bought a wool pad, and 3M compound. I also bought 1000,1500,2000,2500 wet sand paper and bought 3M 3000 disk sand paper that I planning on using with the porter cable. Hopefully it'll work.

Does anybody know if it will?

I'm in the southbay area. Torrance.

The wool pad will not work on the porter cable. Not enough power

Dammit... What foam pad will be equivalent to a wool pad?

Wool pads just feel so normal and natural to me. Oh well...

Will the one that came with the kit work?

CCS Orange 6.5 inch Light Cutting?

Or which color?
 
This is the next one. Just one step lower not bad.

CCS Yellow Cutting Foam 4 Inch Pad - Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and older finishes. Always follow this pad with an orange or white pad and a fine polish to refine the paint until it is smooth.
 
Are we allowed to talk about our local auto paint shop? Or is it no no?
 
I damp sanded with Meg's unigrit and foam backing, went up to 3000.

Removed sand marks with Meg's MF System, all with DA.

Go to Meguiars free classes in Irvine.
