So my porter cable has been a rock for me the last two months and I use it 3-4 times per week at a few hours a night doing cars. Last night I noticed a ton of heat coming through the pad at it would shut off randomly and then come back on. Do these things have an internal heat sensor that will make them shut off if they get to hot? I was maybe an hour into my work when it decided to act up on me. Today it works fine when I turned it on, but didn't use for an extended amount of time.

Anyone else have this issue?

Im not very experienced but I did read somewhere that this can be a result of the internal brushes wearing down... They are usually easily replaced.

Could be your power cored? What gauge cord are you using?

They can also overheat and generally start acting screwy if the washer is not installed around the spindle (behind the backing plate).

I plugged the cord directly into the outlet tonight. It seems to slow down and speed up now. Just randomly kicks down and up, it's under warranty so may send it in.

Its crapping out. Same thing happened to mine after very light use in under a year. They're made in china now and appear to be garbage!

As others have stated...check the 'washer.'

Not doubting you, but any idea when they started, "Made in China?"

Sad to see that...

Unfortunately I don't know what year they began making them there but I can assure you they are made in China. This is the reason Adams doesn't carry them anymore.

When my "new" one dies again, I'll switch to a GG6 to go along with my Flex.

I fixed the issue. I went and bought a Griots yesterday. I will send the Porter Cable back for warranty and sell it off cheap once it arrives back. That Griots is amazing compared to this one.
