Possible Spring 2014 Chicagoland Detail Day?

I know that most cars are CC but when I hear rubbing compound I think aggressive, so I wanna make sure we don't do damage to the finish on the donor car, that's all. I sent Forrest a PM about this and will report my findings with the group. Just wanna use as much of one of sponsors products as possible, that's all.

I sure hope so! As I mentioned in the other thread, I have a brand new Black 2014 Rogue that the dealer did quite the number on washing it and I've been wanting to try and fix all the swirl marks. I bought the Griots 6" DA and a few other small things but with zero experience I'm a little intimidated.

I used to scared to death to use a machine, trust me and this was only 5 yrs ago but the GG6" is VERY easy to use, the dvd was very helpful and funny to boot, LOL! Coming to the event with your tools and products will net you the results your looking for, trust me.

Told myself many years ago I would never buy another black car, so what did I do? Went and bought a black SUV, less then 3000 miles and it's making me crazy already!

I said the same thing as I had 3 black cars in a row many years ago (89 Buick LeSabre T-Type, 87 GN and a 93 Park Avenue Ultra), the GN went away spring of 2000....flash forward 14 yrs and I bought the Abarth but atleast its metallic black. Ok, that said, once you come to the Detail Day you'll learn how to deal with it better, trust me and the product knowledge will amaze you!

Depends on just what your wanting to achieve and the amount of time to do it. If your wanting to learn how properly use a rotary and a DA/ Rupes then I would suggest scrap panels to learn on not someones donated car. I can't remember if someone said they were bringing any but if you do get some also remember to bring some wet sanding paper to marr them up, 1000 grit and up would work nicely. With that being said we're only really going to have time to teach the basics but should have time to get people feeling a little bit more comfortable. I remember last year that was really not the focus but for a few people.

Yeah the last detail day wasn't what I thought it would be from the donor car, I hope we all get to work on the car together, everyone doesn't have to slave over it either as there's a lot of people this time. As far as wetsanding the car goes, well you'd need to PM MadMerc about that and see what he says as its his sisters ride.

I want people to get out of the day what they want to, want to learn something, great, want to come and hang out and pick up some pointers, great, just come out to put a name with a face, great, you get out of it what you want.

Its less than a month away, give or take a day, so its getting within site, plenty of time for anyone willing to step in and teach the basics to the group, I for one am not experienced enough with the variety of paint finishes, that's for sure but it looks like we've got some knowledgeable guys here!

whoa whoa Roger the wet sanding paper is to marr up the the training panels lol. Read what I wrote!! But after seeing how to do it then just maybe someone may be willing to try it on their own. There is only one way to learn.

Ok, I either missed what you said or it was taken out of context but 2x's WHOA and 2x's !!, is it really needed in our thread here? Using one's name is like a teacher and/or parent scolding a kid when they do something wrong. There was NO intent by me to say you were suggesting what I said a couple posts back. I also don't appreciate being told I'm now putting 2 and 2 together via a PM either.

Before the entire event goes down the drain I'm going to exuse myself from the event but will drop off all the giveaway items I asked for, including what I donated and the grand prize to our host before the event gets going. Speaking of that, people can show up around 8:30 a.m.

Hope everyone enjoys the event and learns a thing or two! BTW I don't want any PM's about this either, not interested in this anymore.

Before the entire event goes down the drain...

First off, Roger, you're coming.

With that said, it's a great time to spell a few things out...

Since I'm hosting this event, I'm taking the liberty of making the rules here. The rules are very simple.

1) please show respect for others
2) please show respect for the facility, as well as my corporate neighbors
3) I HATE drama and will NOT tolerate it in any way - if there's drama, you WILL be TOLD to leave.

Most attending our new to this type of thing, so sticking to the basics is the theme of the day.

Let's proceed with things as they were intended - this day is designed for us to get together and share a passion for cars/detailing while enjoying each others company.

Jeff

This.

I will add that there will be a lot of information and different personalities here, so just keep in mind that you will see many different ways to get the same results. Just show up with an open mind.

You ARE coming, Roger.

Wait a minute here if anything was taken out of context it was what you interpreted me to mean. I used your name as it was on a personal level as I had thought we were on that level. Sorry. I was in noway scolding you and surely apologize if you thought I was. You excusing yourself would be very unfortunate I ask that you reconsider. Through our pm's I thought we were on the same page guess not, my fault then.

Jeff no drama here just a miss understanding is all. So with that being said I had offered my services to the co-host (i guess) to help in anyway I can and to pass along my knowledge of the sponsors products in a form of a mini clinic as I have used them quite a bit as most of you know. I think that is where it got confusing for the two of us. If it means someone not coming over this confusion I have no problem excusing myself from this event. It is quite a challenge on me to make it as it is anyway.

I have a few test panels that I will bring. Running low on 3000 and 5000 grit paper.

That will be great for those wanting to try their hand at machine polishing with no fear of messing something up.

I would like to have members to be able to have a chance to remove sanding marks with a da and rotary. Great teaching tool . IMO.

Just put my 5" backing plate on my Griots DA so def looking forward to this for some tips and tricks on "best practices". The sun and the decent temperatures gives me an itch just to go out there and give it a whirl!

Got another well known brand sponsorship to jump on board today. Just waiting to hear back on what they are sending.
