Possible Spring 2014 Chicagoland Detail Day?

Hey just for you Chicago guys. Eastwood is opening a retail store in Alsip. The grand opening is April 25th. They don't carry detailing products, but carry paint, plastidip and tons of tools. They even have a private label of something like plasti dip that is supposed to cover better.

Thanks for the heads up, going to have to look for that and see what they've got, need some good high temp paint for the bracket over my turbo, surely its going to discolor soon enough.

Looks like someone from Lake County is going to show up to our meet and if for whatever reason he's not able to come some items will be making it to our door prize table. At this point we might need a 2nd table, LOL! I'm blown away with everyone stepping up and in on our meet, I'm at a loss of words right now!

I think you meant Lake "Country"

Sorry about that, damn talk to txt sometimes, LOL! I encourage people who are looking to attend and still haven't added your name to the master list in the other thread to do so, this way we have an idea of how many people to expect, thank you. Also if your on the list and can't make, please take yourself off of the list, thanks. Its no biggie as sheet happens, LOL.

Your welcome and it really is going to be epic. Sure we've got a lot of give away items but getting the people together for learning, showing and general friendship is what its all about.

I would also like to take this time to remind people to bring small bills to the meet as well for when we order pizza for lunch. Not trying to sound petty but rather wanna make the event run smoothly and remember, who has ca$h on them nowadays, LOL. I will remind everyone a couple times more as well get closer.

I'm happy with our join list too and is there anyone coming that's interested in seeing rinseless wash in action? If so, let us know and bring your car to the meet dirty, well maybe not caked up dirty but rather "driving in the rain" dirty. Myself as well as others would love to help show you it works, don't worry about coming to the show dirty, if you wanna know how rinseless works this is the best way to show you...on your own car!

I actually, 5 minutes ago, just ordered some Optimum No Rinse. So I have interest. I'm sure I'll use it before May 18th (May17th is my b-day), but you guys will be able to tell me all the things I did wrong haha.

Bring a sample with you, along with your wash tools and we'll go from there. Best way to learn is by doing it and listening to what others have to say who've been using it for years. Seeing your new to it I would suggest using a good spray bottle as a pre-wash, makes it even more safe. I used to only use my Aqua sponge when doing a rinseless and never had an issue but I feel better using the pre-soak method. One more thing, I recycle the left over rinseless wash too because when doing the 2BM method your wash solution stays clean so why throw it out, re-use it for pre-wash/pre-soak, whatever you wanna call it.

More great news...

Just spoke to Meghan at Autogeek - she will be assembling a "care package" as well...

A VERY gracious gesture on their part. :dblthumb2:

Our Detail Day continues to get better and better...

I'm glad you were able to do this for us Jeff, thanks to Meghan @AutoGeek for her help in making our event even better! Our join list is growing as well and its probably a good time to figure out a good time to get the event going. I would like to get there early because I've got a lot of stuff to drop off and would also like to do a rinseless on my car as well. I know this too, the best local pizza place is going to make some money from our group that day!!!

Our list is now up to 15, more than enough people to knock out our test car. Keep in mind everyone that your not obligated to help on the test car but it is a chance to contribute, learn something and have fun!

If anyone is planning on helping out with the donor car you should bring your machine. I'm sure we'll have enough people to where everyone can have a panel or half a section to do, IMO this would work best. Were also going to be doing a rinseless wash on that car too, along with paint decontamination before the correction. I have a Speedy prep towel so people can see how well that works too. See that's another good thing about Detail Day, a newer product like the Speedy prep towel can be viewed and tried before you buy one, like other products as well that will be there.

Hey Merc I remember the car being a Camry but what color is it again, black?

It's a Corolla and it is, indeed, black.

Ok....which one of our Chicagoland AG'ers is on Drive Chicago right now asking about Lake Country pads right now? His name is Bill.

Now someone is asking about OptiCoat and the guy doesn't even know about coatings, doesn't like "new fangled things", says a bodyshop applies it. Says to apply a good coat of heavy wax, this is the owner of Boba's Detailing, believe it around Joliet somewhere. Good to know a business is staying ontop of products that are FAR superior to those products that were all the rage when radial tires were all the rage, LOL!

Not sure why someone in the business doesn't stay up to date, maybe his customer base is like him and its just easier to stick with "old school" tech.

So the owner of Boba's is telling a guy with bird poop to have it brought in to the shop to be wet sanded. Now I'm sure some etching from bird poop stains needs this but how about some advice to try before hand. A previous caller asked about what do after winter and the usual quarter carwash in the wheelwells was said and that's true enough and then grease on the paint was brought up and instead of the tried and true use of WD40, which most people have in the house, he says to go out and get Bug and Tar remover, again, good advice but maybe some common sense remedies would be in order. You'd think someone who's been in the business for so long would know and suggest this to people.

Not sure if anyone knows this guy or maybe he's a member here, either way I'd like to extend an invite to him so he come on out to our detail day and pick up on some of the current products on the market to make his business better. I'm really blown away that someone in the business is "just" using wax these days.

***UPDATE***

I picked up the grand prize from UPS this morning and because I didn't hear from the person whom donated it to our Detail Day about whether or not to announce what it is I think its best to keep it a surprise for the group. I will say this, the winner will be happy for sure, no doubt about it!
