Post a picture of your First car

I know I am extremely lucky. She is the main reason I got so into detailing. To tell you how much I love my car in our last newspaper all the seniors get "Mostly likely to go something". Mine was most likely to find a way to legally marry his car. I was proud. :dblthumb2:

Id be surprised if half the people on here know what it is

Looks like a Lexus IS to me, have to say I've never seen one with a badge-less grill, I like it though, looks a lot more aggressive. :xyxthumbs:

Not my pictures but...

My real first car, a hand-me-down at 16, roof's paint was non-existent, neither was the A/C. I was lifeguarding that summer too, oh the joy.

Then I got one of these from a neighbor for a steal about 6 months later
nissanAltima2000_02.jpg

lasted me 4.5 years until I got t-boned.

Now I drive what's in my avatar.

1990 Mustang GT 5.0 5 Speed. Wanted one for a long time and finally made the connection. Looked for several months until I found the perfect one but I'm sure glad I waited! View attachment 18763

No photos but I had a 1969 Super Bee in high school back in 1972. Yellow with a black vinyl top 383 4 Speed.

Don't have a pic handy, but my first wheels were my Dad's '64 Oldsmobile Delta 88 - aka "the Tank".

And greetings from a fellow Boilermaker! :xyxthumbs:

Ahhh, so your Dad was an Olds guy too?!?! :dblthumb2: Mine was from waaaaaaaaaay back. The first car I remember was a 63 Cutlass convertible. Several more through the years as well, including the Vista Cruiser (that 70's show, except ours was black and woodgrain) and the last one a Custom Cruiser, (basically a 98 on steroids).

My first (and second) was a Mercury Comet. First one, a 72 white like below, automatic car. Several bolt on's, intake, carb, ignition, traction bars etc. Ended up with that one V shaped where I hit a telephone pole airborne, sideways about 25 miles an hour, 8' in the air, RIGHT IN THE DRIVERS DOORHANDLE! Sat my seat right on top of the passenger seat!

Second one was a 71 Mercury Comet just like this one. Different mags, and diamond button tucked interior. This one was of course a 4-speed. :) Drastically different engine, 4-bolt mains, monster Speed Pro 12:7 pistons, 612 lift cam, 351 heads (shaved), bored .30 over, even had a rear end from a 71 Torino 429 in it (that wasn't shortened and stuck out 1¼" on each side) and would pull the front wheels off the ground. On a GOOD day I got about 6 mpg on 103 octane. :hotrod2:
We used to go hang out at Shoneys Big Boy that was surrounded on 3 sides by huge granite walls from 20' to 45' high. The sounds those hot rods would make down in that hole were just magnificent. :D (One thing that brings those memories back is the Summit Racing that is just down the street.)

With the first one everyone wanted to race me, (and I turned a lot of them down). With the black one... we had to get there early and not crank it up! Only after I had a bet in hand would I crank it, and we NEVER lost a drag with that baby, n-e-v-e-r. ;) Some guys would want to do a roll-on, which I actually liked better because I didn't have a scatter shield on it and wasn't too fond of dumping the clutch (with that Torino rear end under her) at 4500+ rpm. I'd just roll along in 2nd to 25 and when they went "GO" I'd double clutch it, hit 1st, smoke the tires through 45, wind er' up and we'd run a ½ mile.
Ahhhhhh the days of being young, dumb, and too much money in your pocket.:nomore:

Weird thing is... I'd like to have another black one. Do the street touring package to it with 4 wheel discs, a nice 5 or 6 speed stick and a big ol' stroker motor. Im the MAN (Or just pull a stock late model supercharged 5.0 from a junkyard and drop that in it.)

72 Buick GS, here is a pic of my future wife and I at York US30 dragstrip. Circa 1973. I had longer and more hair back then!!!

US30 Dragstrip? That rang a bell. I remember the commercials all the time on Chicago Radio Stations.

I only remember going down there once.

Usually went to Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin.

Miss the Can-Am Series. We'd always root for John Surtees in the Chaparrals.

It's not a regular lexus IS, but an IS-F which is a lot faster and more aggressive.

My first car was a 1993 honda accord.

Hey Jim, you're showing your age!!:props:

What's the give away between an F and say a 250/350? Bumper? The lip looks aftermarket.

The worst part is I was remembering US30 Dragway in Hobart Indiana (near Gary), not York PA. Never knew there were 2 places called US30 Dragway.

Since US30 went coast to coast, I wonder if there were any more!

Still miss the BeeLine Dragway out on the Salt River Indian Reservation northeast of Scottsdale. Timing tower is still there (covered with graffiti), but that's it. I remember when Shirley Cha-Cha Muldowney first showed up to race.

And, they just closed Firebird International Raceway (south of Phoenix) at the end of March.

I guess dragstrips just aren't as popular as they used to be.

Jim

BTW, many of the trips to Elkhart Lake were driven by parents (either mine or my friends). We weren't old enough to drive :cruisin:

I never knew there was one on 30 in Indiiana, never been to that one. Then again in those days we never traveled to far away from out hometown.

I remember seeing Prudhomme, Jungle Jim and the bunch at the drags. I especially like the night races.

There a a few strips left in Pa but not like it used to be. O well getting ready to walk the dog. Nice talking to you!!!

The opening on the sides of the front bumper of the F are larger and more aggressive. The fog lights are also a different shape. The car also has wider fenders, massive front and rear brakes and different tail lights.

But for someone who isn't completely familiar with the car it is most known for its 4 exhaust tips.

Oh wow I just pulled up an image of the front of a regular IS and the bumper was the dead give away. Seems like there's much more of an aggressiveness jump in the IS's than say a BMW M series or Audi RS/S series compared to their standard counterparts. Thanks for the info though!

There are huge differences in the M series cosmetically. Completely different front and rear bumper, different rear diffusor, flared front and rear fenders, different exhaust, and different hood not to mention the interior work either.

You misunderstand me, I know there are significant differences between the performance variants and their standard models, I was saying that the cosmetic difference between a IS 250/350 and an IS F seems greater than that of a 5 series to an M5, a 3 series to an M3, or an A4 to S4. Given the pictures provided, I was more directly referring to the front end. Could it be because the other makers cars are already more aggressive looking than the Lexus's? Absolutely, however it was just an observation

To me they seem like they have the same amount of variation. I will say that a well equipped A4 looks pretty similar to an S4 minus the quad exhaust on the rear

Was 16 in high school. The good old days. Only worries in the world were getting good grades and playing varsity baseball
