Before everyone switches to one of the several synthetic detailing clay alternatives out there let's post our NASTIEST, FILTHIEST, DIRTIEST claybar before/after shots!!! Here is a link for anyone new to the detailing scene to learn more about the benefits of claying your paint: Auto detailing clay

I'll kick things off! These are all from the same vehicle: 2000 Honda Accord with 13X,XXX hwy miles. Each before and after is from ONE PANEL of the vehicle. Using Meg's Fine Clay w/ ONR @ clay lube dilution.

Thanks for looking... Let's see what you got!!! :Picture:

Here's an oldie but a goodie. This is after just doing the hood on an '85 Corolla several years ago:

I haven't had anything that bad since, maybe because I use IronX beforehand to get some contaminants off first.

After only 1/3 of the hood on a 2009 BMW 525i... car was terribly contaminated.

Those pictures look like you're not kneeding the clay enough. Mine has never gotten that dirty because I don't use the same material that long. It looks like you could be scratching the paint with that many contaminents in the surface of the clay.

That's a good point; however, on this vehicle I was not worried about marring the finish as it was so poorly neglected anyway. I might as well have been claying with a scotchbrite pad... it wouldn't have made a difference with how swirled out the finish already was.

The reason I photographed this clay is because the car was less than 3 months old!

Man, some of you guys must be claying the undercarriage!

You should include before/after shots of the paint. That's what I thought this thread was when I clicked it.

That's a good idea. I have found it extremely hard, though, to capture the difference in a photograph of the paint itself. On white it may be possible but on darker colors seems like it would be impossible. I like to take shots of the clay itself to show the customer how much junk I got off their paint. Most people have never even heard of detailing clay and they are blown away by all the stuff that was bonded to their paint.

I saw one I think mike posted of water spots removed almost completely with clay that looked pretty cool. (I'm new to detailing so I'm easily impressed).

almost 7 years old, clayed twice in her lifetime, always going to car wash joint, 5 years with garage parking, 2 years being outside 24/7, and still going. never has been seal or wax. almost every panel was as bad as this. it took forever... to clay it to 90% clean. for every panel i had to fold the clay 5-10 times. sadly, no IronX yet or else it would be much faster. the paint was actually not bad. swirls here any there but only took 5 passes of M205 and a white pad to clear everything up. this color hide imperfection very very well.

Uh, you can achieve dirty clay w/ a few swipes on the hood or any other horizontal panel.

While kneading and turning the clay is important, you'd go thru 3-4 clay bars per car if you were that concerned about contaminants. Just because the contaminants aren't on the surface they're still IN the clay bar, thereby having the ability to scratch.
