PPF on your headlights?

Another reason all this tech in vehciles is stupid. Just another thing to go wrong, making it harder for the average bear to work on their own stuff.

I would like the more comfortable seating and such, smoother ride, but thats about it. Give me back the old tech lol

Or imagine having car that cost $100,000 dollars 5yrs. ago and having this problem…

Has anyone had any experience with the Weathertech headlight PPF kits?

I'll chime in as another believer for PPF'ing headlights.

Had a meet & greet with one of Bambi's buddies and lost both headlights (among other things) on my last car. Retail on those lights was around $1100 each at the time. Took my new headlights still in boxes to a PPF installer near my work and had them filmed (just standard paint film, didn't go the thick route). I forget the exact mileage of when it happened, but when I sold the car to a friend with 300k on it, they looked like new still. I want to say that was probably about 160,000 miles and about 8 years of use.

I'm a lights-on-for-safety kinda guy, so a great many of those miles was with the headlights on and I had no deformation/discoloration of the film or lenses.

Did the wife's car when she got it about 9 years ago, hers are looking good. Kicking myself for not doing my current car when I got it, as a year later I've already put the front end through 23k worth of road debris and new headlights are way more than the last car's... Wish it wasn't such a headache to get the car over to the tint/film guy I trust.

I found a shop that does Expel, which is what the dealer had installed when we bought the car

I have no idea why they didn’t do the headlights then because the new shop says the patterns are in the cutting program

Regardless, I have an appointment for Monday morning to get headlights and fog lights done

So, headlights and fog lights done

I am happy with the service I got so the other Lexus is going in next Monday for the same treatment

Sweet.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much do they charge per vehicle? Just wondering how much more to have an experienced pro handle it vs. rookie me risking a botch happening on the install.

It was $221 total per vehicle

What’s weird is Expel doesn’t even offer the headlights kits for my cars, but, the cutting program for them IS in the dealers master program so I couldn’t have bought genuine Expel kits regardless

I looked at other kits from $60 to almost $100 for the same thing and figured like you, I would let the pros handle it

*nods* Honestly I can’t say that job done perfectly isn’t worth every penny when you really think about it.

-10yrs. & brand new headlights + perfect install.

So you have a big roll of PPF on deck at all times and have mastered how to do the cuts? [stupid question assuming that’s your work in the pics]

If so, how hard was it to learn how to get good at cutting it perfectly and how long did it take you?

Or is the upsell something that’s done well in advance and therefore requires enough time for you to order the pre cut PPF to fit their vehicle?

I have a friend who got me into it and we typically do the work together. He does a lot of full car stuff and needs the help and he keeps the big rolls on hand. well, he doesn't "need" the help, but it is much easier to do a large hood, roof, etc. with two people. I keep the smaller stuff as I typically do headlights, pillars and smaller areas alone. That is our work and my daughters CR-V. I've been doing it for nearly 30 years. We do all custom cuts, no templates. We wrap all edges. Took me about a year to get really good at it. Now, it's as easy as detailing.

I upsell at the point of dropoff. Headlights will take maybe 1hr from pulling out the gear and material and cleaning up my space to putting it all away. The actual work cutting and laying it on each, about 20 minutes per side.
