Hi all,
Last week I placed an order @ Autogeek and decided to partake of their generous free sample offer. With nice weather this past Sunday, I decided to give the Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine and Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel products a try. **I am sorry for not including pictures, but as soon as I got my truck all nice and pretty, the wife stole it out from under me and asked me to get to work on hers!!! :buffing:
Vehicle details:
Freshly washed 2007 GMC Envoy Denali, Graphite Gray Metallic.
Product:
Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine - Sample size 4oz.
I was kind of confident in this one before even taking the cap off of the sprayer. So much so, that I bought a gallon to go along with the sample size. Hey, it was on sale anyways... :xyxthumbs:
Observations:
I started on the hood, a few quick spritzs followed by a gentle buffing with a Cobra Deluxe Jr. 600 Microfiber Towel, rotated frequently and replaced when overly dampened. What was left behind was a beautiful, bright, streak-free shine that did not require me to hunt for missed spots or to revisit later. Application was a breeze, allowing me to circle the entire vehicle in minutes.
I woke up this morning and there were no streaks or spots requiring rebuffing to finish off. Also and more surprisingly, there was not so much as a speck of dust on it, unlike other QD's I have tried that looked like the truck had a five o'clock shadow by morning. I ran the back of my hand over the paint and it felt slicker than a teflon frying pan, but was in no way greasy or slimy.
My Megs UQD has just taken a back seat, and I couldn't be happier!!! If this stuff beads up half as nice as UQD, I may never look back. Will update this thread after the next rain or wash, whichever comes first. Two thumbs up!!!:dblthumb2:
Negatives: Only having waited this long to try it!
Similar products used:
Megs Quik detailer
Megs Ultimate Quick Detailer
Pinnacle Crystal Mist
Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz
*** FWIW: The list above is small as I never felt the need to use a QD-type product until I became OCD with regards to the upkeep of my families vehicles. Now, I view their use as icing on the cake.
Next up:
Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel - Sample size 2oz.
Had no idea what to expect out of this product, and honestly didn't even expect the 2 oz. size to be able to complete all four of my tires. WRONG! I still have at least half of the sample bottle left and that's with having made 2 full passes per tire.
Method of Application:
Wet tires were thoroughly sprayed with ARO, allowed to dwell for a couple of minutes, then scrubbed with a long handled tire brush and flushed well with water.
Cobra Flex Foam Tire Dressing Applicators were used for actual application.
Observations:
Application was slow going at first until I realized that like polishing, sometimes things go easier once you're working with a pad thats been primed. I felt like I was using a lot of product initially, but once I had a decent amount of the gel in the pad, it came down to re-applying a quarter size drop to the applicator for each subsequent tire after the first. Coverage was very good and the product flowed well into all of the cracks, crevices and ridges my tires presented (Goodyear Fortera HL's). I saw no drips or runs during application, even when working the applicator into the tighter areas, such as around the tread blocks at the edge of the tires and while circling the edge closest to the wheels (rims). After the last tire was completed, I went back around with the same applicator (no additional product) and made a final pass around each just to assure even coverage and to cleanup any excess, just as a matter of habit. Once completed, I moved up in my parking spot about 1-2 feet to dress the part of the tire that had been closest to the ground.
What I was left with were 4 of the blackest, richest tires i have ever seen. The blackness has to be seen to be believed. They were not just darkened, they were black as if I had dyed them black. 8-ball on the billiard table black. My initial shine was very good, probably a bit too much for many here, but on this particular vehicle, I don't mind a little extra gloss. For those requiring a satin look, it can be toned down significantly by simply using less than I did, or by following up with either another dry applicator or a towel of your choice.
I checked the tires before going to work this morning and there was no sign of any drips or pooling of the gel anywhere on the surface of the four tires. Not being one to leave well enough alone, I grabbed a terry cloth shop towel out of the garage and proceed to make one light circular pass around each tire, as a measure to prevent any slinging onto the freshly washed and FK425'd paint discussed earlier. Much to my surprise, a little black residue transfered to the towel but for the most part, it was much cleaner than I would have expected and the gel stayed where it belonged on my tires. I started my truck and pulled it back a couple of feet and also checked my concrete driveway for any puddles or residual that may have been left behind from sitting overnight. NADA, ZIP, NIENTE!.
I arrived at work after a brisk ~30 mile ride and found NO traces of tire gel anywhere. I looked high and low, in and out of the sun and could not find a smudge or a smear anywhere. Even the wheel well liners were grease free!
All in all, this product has exceeded my expectations and I await the opportunity to report back as to it's durability. As it stands right now, I will be buying more of this product.
Negatives:
Some may consider the price to be a bit on the high side as compared to some of the other offerings out there, but look for a sale and jump on. You won't regret it!
