So when you guys talk about pre-washing with Dawn soap, what exactly do you mean? Do you wash the entire car with Dawn dish soap, and then wash the car again with your designated car shampoo?

You might find a few that use dawn, but there is no reason to use it when there is car soap that does not damage rubber trim.

Washing with Dawn should only be done once in a while at best. Washing the vehicle with Dawn dish soap will typically strip existing waxes and polishes to prepare the vehicle for fresh wax.

If you do decide to do this then you would just wash your vehicle with Dawn and then you're ready to wax. Personally, I'd rather just use car wash soap and then polish the vehicle to remove old wax.

i wash with dawn soap on all my really bad cars that never have been waxed before. hlps get the road gunk off. and i wash my truck once a year with dawn. i believe it quickens the detail process.

Alright. I'm getting ready to detail my car on Monday...just got the PC and XMT kit in today!! I've gotta start from the beginning so I guess I'll just skip the Dawn and wash the car with my car shampoo. I should invest in a foam gun haha.

Alot of the time Dawn is not strong enough to remove wax or a sealant. This were your clay comes in, which also does not remove all wax or sealant. Polish is the best way to remove old wax or sealant. If a vehicle is that bad then it needs a body solvent bath.

It's not horrible. I have clay, XMT 3 and 1, finishing glaze, and a sealant. I'm sure that will work perfectly!

Dawn is highly alkaline, and can damage rubber surrounds and weatherstripping with repeated use. Leave it in the kitchen. If you want a dedicated paint cleanser look to several products:

Paint cleansing lotions : Pinnacle, P21S
Wax/Sealant Removers : Prepsol, 3M Wax and Adhesive Remover

and for extremely dirty paint you can use P21S Total Wash as a Presoak or add some Poorboys Bug Squash in cannon/foam gun with your normal soap.
