This Escape belongs to one of the troops that I indirectly supervise. Long story short is the engine block cracked on him at 60K miles. It was taken to the local OEM Ford repair shop where they replaced the engine with a long block (block, bottom rotating assembly, and head) along with a few other items under the hood to the tune of what a 2010 Escape sells for at its current state…
At the moment he was able to retrieve the vehicle from the dealer provided he paid for fluids, and a few odds and ends without paying the full bill. So far he is out of pocket for paying for the job even though all maintenance has been provided from authorized Ford repair shops. He is trying to take this up with Ford USA on the condition of the lemon law. There is no reason the engine should have failed at 60K miles with all documented work through Authorized Ford repair centers.
Anyhow after him going through all this he has decided to sell the vehicle as well as another vehicle of his to help pay for the repair bill if he is turned down from Ford. After catching wind of this I knew right away that a properly detailed vehicle would fetch more money than if he just washed it himself.
I personally took on full responsibility and volunteered my time and products with the help of the owner (my troop) and forum member Focusst14 to clean this vehicle up in preparation for sale so he can reach top dollar for his vehicle. After all it has a new engine.
Knowing that this vehicle needs to be sold a thorough cleaning is in order to include carpet extraction, engine bay wash, as well as a good AIO. As much as I love to polish paint to remove all defects, I had to think outside of my realm and pick something that would get the job done in one step saving time. Remember I am doing this out of the kindness of my heart to help my fellow airman out.
