I am in the works of moving to Lexington, KY to start a side business of detailing. I currently live in a somewhat rural city in southern Indiana of about 60,000 residents in the county. Biggest city within 45 minutes. I believe with the friends and potential clientele I already know of, I will be fine. It's a huge step for someone with a spot with the local Sheriff's Dept. and only 23 with a big student loan, but hard work, dedication, perserverance, and the desire not to repeat a mistake goes a long way...
 
Sounds like a great opportunity. Make sure to adjust your prices and services accordingly with a different market. Perseverance and a little business savy is going to take you a long way my friend!

Dont know much about rural areas but one thing I know for sure is the fact that DIY'rs are in abundance in small towns so they typically detail their own cars.

Very true. Only the upper middle class, upper class, and seniors are my main source of any revenue. Only true enthusiasts, with deep pockets, get anything more than my "bronze" package.
