Problem cleaning Glass...

Thanks for that info richy. I'm just wondering if it'll get this residue off. I've dealt with off-gassing haze before, but I don't remember it being as stubborn as this to come off. Hmmm...

Yes, it will get it off. I am very, very satisfied with mine.

For whatever reason, I've found that a simple cleaner wax will remove a lot of junk from windows. Since cleaner waxes are designed to remove embedded dirt, oxidation, and gunk from paint, its not a stretch that they will also work on glass. I don't think your going to have much luck with any chemical or special cloth alone.

This worked really well for me and will also remove water spots. Got it free with the purchase of a clay bar. It's available at any auto parts store.

For just getting normal glass these Fast Glass towels from CarPro are the best I've tried. And, they work with plain water.

I don't know if I would go at the windows on my new car with steel wool. In my experience, glass scratches fairly easy. Before I tried that, I would just use a dedicated glass polish. But, any polish or AIO product should do the trick.

I use either one of these products with:
-A terry cloth by hand...Or,
-By machine with a foam cutting pad...
for deep cleaning auto glass...especially the windshield/rear window

Recently, and after removal of polishing residues from auto glass,
I've been using "Richy's KD Cloths" with great results...

Thanks Richy!! :props:

Manny, check out my thread. I hate that haze too. This WILL fix it!!!

richy: how long does one KD cloth last?

Is this the same thing: Perfectly Streak Free Microfiber Cloths

I've been using 2 of them on and off for a few months and they are still going strong. Your link appears to be the same thing exactly. I think someone had posted that link on my original thread that I linked above.

Bob, glad to hear they're working well for you! DG 501 also does a good job on dirty glass (like a smoker's car) but the KD cloths are very fast and very effective.

richy: I just placed an order for 5 for $20 of the Perfectly Streak Free Cloths. I'll let you know how they work once they arrive.

Most new cars get a film on the inside of the windows as the plastic and glues used in assembly outgas. It can be very difficult to remove and returns in a short period of time. It seems as though most glass cleaners just won't budge it, they just smear it around.

Correct. This is called Vinyl Fob and it's basically carcinogens from all the man-made plastics including upholstery, carpets, everything under the dash, the door panels etc.

It leaves a very stubborn oily film and one sure fire way to remove it is to mechanically abrade the glass with a glass safe polish and then use a glass cleaner to remove your polishing residues.

Once you've broken the bond and more or less diluted the oily film you'll still want to use a LOT of microfiber towels to clean your glass so that you don't merely transfer residue from the towel back onto the glass.

The idea being that once you get any kind of substance off the glass and onto the cloth... quit using "that" cloth until it's properly laundered.

If all else fails, might need to...acle GlassWork Water Spot Remover[/B][/COLOR]

Came out clear as glass though...

Crystal clear, sealed glass...
After you finish all the exterior glass on your car will look crystal clear and give your car a completed, brand new car look. The glass will be as shiny as it was when it was brand new and road glare will be a thing of the past.

Note: You don't want to use anything abrasive or anything with ammonia on the inside glass with window tinting on it.

I used those for years back in Oregon to remove water spots on the outside of glass and for removing vinyl fog on the inside of glass.

:)

If they 'work' in that environment...
Then...IMHO...They should work almost anywhere!!

[I know they've worked for me...(only it's been mostly in OH/KY)]

Thanks for all the info Mike. Very much appreciated! :xyxthumbs:

Most if not all the daily drivers I detailed had water spot on both the paint and the glass...

:)

I don't like cleaning glass probably because it shows everything when looked thru where as paint finishes reflect.
Someone had a nifty idea...........wipe the outside horizontally, inside vertically, this way you can tell where the streaks are.

I bought a new car (93 Olds) that had a hand palm imprint between the laminate below the rearview mirror, drove me crazy until it was replaced after a stone chip incident

You mean the hand print was a manufacturing defect inside the glass?

Yes it was, between the 2 layers, either on the film or on one of the pieces of glass.
Looked like a faint palm print. When it was finally replaced, the installer said he's noticed it before on new windshields usually in the lower corners.
Dealer didn't do anything about it since they closed for business a month later, any other dealer wouldn't touch it, neither would GM, they thought it was already replaced aftermarket, very possible by the dealer themselves since the car had 15 miles on the odometer when I bought it.

I ordered the Pinnacle Crystal Clear Glass Kit. Hopefully this will solve my glass issue. Can anyone confirm if the Glasswork Water Spot Remover is safe to use on the the rear glass defroster lines?

Will the kd cloth work with the master pro glass cleaner tool. Some guys here have said they wrap a mf towel around the tool. Wonder if you wrap a kd cloth around the glass pro if it would work.

I used it on my 03 cobra with no issue. From what I understand it is a non-abrasive chemical cleaner
