I am working on an extreme makeover (soon to be posted) on a 2001 MB S420 black. The paint is conventional formula.

The paint is in very bad shape. Tons of white overspray, deep scratches, and water spots.

I am having issues removing RIDS after the 1st polishing stage using the Flex 3401 polisher.

What I have tried:

Stage 1:
M105 with LC CCS yellow cutting pad on speed 5.5
Hit it with 6 pass and removed 75% of defect

Stage 2:
Menzerna PO106FA with LC heavy polishing pad on speed 5
Hit it with 3 pass

This is where it stops.

Upon inspection with Xenon light I see LOTS of RIDS.

Is this the limit of the Flex while using a foam pad?
I do not have a rotary or know how to use it correctly.

Should I step down to Meguiars Ultimate Compound and use a heavy polishing pad with same speed of 5?

This is what I started with. I do not have the photo with the RIDS since it was overcast at the time.

Prime the pad well with 105 and clean often. Use pressure and very slow arm movement on a 18"X18" area. You should get 90% of the rids out except for the deep scratches.

Thanks, I will give Surbuff a try. I aways wanted to test it out. Now I have an excuse. :)
