Hey guys,
Here's my baby:
However, when you get a little closer, you see that she has some problems on the hood. Oxidation, birds, water spots, scratches, OGW: (This is unwashed, unwaxed)
This is with 5 coats of wax on the left and unwaxed on the right to clearly prove the point that wax wont hide ugly, and it wont correct paint flaws:
The rear clearly shows spider webbing, oxidation, water spots, and scratches:
...and OGW:
The oxidation on the hood is pretty bad, but I believe it can be saved:
You can see how dry and lifeless the finish is. When I apply wax there is a clear contrast between the liquid shine that is missing from the finish:
Something else I'd like to correct is to smooth out the factory paint so that it's flat and flawless. You can also see that the front bumper was repainted so I'm sure the hardness is different, and it also has a different level of "orange peel" than what Chevy gave it at the factory:
And the roof has some oxidation with proof of birds that needs correction:
Any recommendations on products or techniques that would be good for my first project?
At this point I assume that I should follow this order:
1. Clay
2. Some kind of aggressive compound to remove oxidation
3. Fine compound to remove remaining swirls
4. Polish for super shine
5. Paint sealer (I've also seen a pre-paint sealer that goes on before the paint sealer, but stays wet so the sealer will seal better)
6. Wax (Necessary if you seal?)
7. Sleep
