Product Review: Diamondite Crystal Gloss (Surface Protectant)

Product Description (from Manufacturer):
“Diamondite Crystal Gloss™ Surface Protectant restores the shine and amps up the protection on automotive surfaces cleaned with Diamondite Bug Eraser™ Waterless Bug Remover. Diamondite Crystal Gloss™ Surface Protectant creates a protective, clear coating that has the shine and slickness of a quality wax, yet the convenience of a spray protectant.”

Initial Product Observations:
1. Manufacturer: Diamondite / Palm Beach Motoring
2. Made in: U.S.A.
3. Packaging: 16 oz. white plastic bottle with an adjustable fine mist sprayer
4. Color: Soft Creamy Purple
5. Scent: Grape
6. Consistency: Thin Liquid
7. Price: $16.99 for 16oz.
8. Directions:
- For the best results, apply to a cool surface.
After cleaning the affected area with Diamondite Bug Eraser ™ Waterless Bug Remover, spray on Diamondite Crystal Gloss™ Surface Protectant. Use a folded microfiber towel to spread the sealant over the treated area. Then flip the towel and buff to a shine.

Application:
- Approx. 6:00 pm in the evening
- Washed and dried the car
- I adjusted the nozzle on the sprayer for a very fine atomized mist.
- Lightly misted the hood, front bumper, and mirrors
- Buffed off using a plush microfiber towel

Notes & Observations:
- The Grape smell is very nice.
- I liked having an adjustable spray nozzle. Some of the newer on/off don’t seem to always allow for the best product atomization.
- It was easy to spray a fine mist onto the area and buff off.
- It left a nice gloss with a slick feel.
- I am not posting pics at this time as the gloss level didn’t show as well on the camera as it did in person.
- I have had it on one car for about a week now and it seems to be holding up well. I have very few bugs sticking to the front end of the vehicle.

Final Thoughts:
Overall Diamondite Crystal Gloss was joy to apply. It went on very easy with a great scent. It buffed off without any streaking leaving a nice re-invigorated shine. There was also a noticeable slickness that was left when compared to other body panels. I will hold out a full judgment until I can test durability but being a full polymer sealant I would assume it will last as long a normal spray wax. I'll keep you updated.

I have thought of a question concerning Crystal Gloss.

1. According to the online description: " The clear polymer formula works as an effective glass sealant, limiting bugs' ability to adhere to the glass in the future." & "Diamondite Crystal Gloss™ Surface Protectant is formulated to be used after Diamondite Bug Eraser™ Waterless Bug Remover, but it makes a great spray sealant in its own right."

My question is how well does Crystal Gloss interact with a layer of Carnauba wax that is on the car? Will it tend to shorten the life of Crystal Gloss? Like Mike P has said in the past"I have never seen a coat of wax or sealant fall off a car" but I also want to be efficient with the use of the products I purchase.

2. Because Crystal Gloss is a essentially a polymer sealant, is there a cure time involved with it? I usually wait 8-12 hrs + when using normal sealants. There is nothing stated as far a cure time but I would imagine you shouldn't use this and the go driving out driving in the rain right after.

Update:
I did check the front end of my car this morning after my drive to work and there is very few bugs sticking to the bumper. I drive through a very rural/country area that usually has my car looking like a bug suicide after my drive to work.

Good review! Do you have any before and after photos?

I do have picture but the car was already clean when I started so there was no real discernible difference in them. Both vehicles I am testing this on currently are also wearing fresh coat of Liquid Natty Blue so they already have good protection and gloss. I plan to take some good before and after pictures this weekend after I have some more time driving them to show the bug build-up and removal. It will be almost 2 weeks on the VW with no washing since applying the Crystal Gloss. I will keep you updated.

Update Time:

It has been just over a week that I have applied Crystal Gloss to to front bumper and mirrors of our vehicles. So far the Crystal Gloss has maintained a nice gloss and a decent slickness. It does seem like there are less bugs sticking to the front bumpers of both vehicles. And Crystal Gloss does seem to make it easier to remove any dried on / baked on bugs guts.

Overall I see Crystal Gloss as a solid performer to this point in my test. I am hoping to see at least another 2 or more weeks of the same performance without any re-application. If it can hold up for 3 weeks or more I would be willing to buy a refill for mine when I run out.

Personal Preference:
I do like the way Crystal Gloss looks and performs to this point. But I feel that at $16 for 16-oz this product might be priced a little high if you don't get at least 3+ weeks out of each application. For $14.99 I can get a 31-oz bottle of FK425 which is one of my favorite QD's. If you keep you vehicle waxed monthly and use a good QD during regular washes I'm not sure that Crystal Gloss would be necessary. I will update this thread in a week or so and let you know my thoughts and findings then.

The following are pictures of the beading on the hood after my wash. Sorry no pics of the bumpers before as I didn't think very far ahead and was just excited to wash my car.

Same area just zoomed in a little.

It looks like its not holding up, the beading does not look so good IMO. Please do give us more updates in the coming days.
Nice review by the way. :xyxthumbs:
