Product Review: PBL Wheel Coating w/ 6month update

I think that was the first 50/50 polish comparison i have ever seen on a wheel spoke! Absolutely outstanding work, Mike, and thanks for taking the time to put this together for us. Looks like i'll have PBL Wheel Coating in my next order.

Excellent write up, Mike! You are hands down the king of wheel prep! ;)

I completely agree with you on wheel coatings vs sealants - especially on BMW's. Coatings make ceaning off brake dust a total breeze.

Currently I have DP's wheel coating on my E93 but will switch it up to PBL this spring. I hadn't even thought about polishing my rims but after seeing the gloss on yours I just may have to!

Question on the second coating of PBL WC - is this recommended? Or something you decided to do for good measure? I haven't noticed this step before so just wanted to ask/ get your thoughts on added durability a second application provides.

Again, excellent review! Thanks for sharing it :props:

Thank you good sir!

It is not a recommendation to apply a second coat although doing so not only ensure even coverage, it will add a bit more protection altogether on the surface of the wheel.

I also had all the time I needed as these wheels were in my storage room downstairs. So I could play with them as much as I wanted to.

Hi Mike...

What an excellent Wheel Cleaning/Coating tutorial
you have documented and presented for our viewing pleasure...This should be a "Sticky"!!

Bob

Thanks Bob!

Awesome writeup Mike !!!

Thanks Pat!

Nice job! Did the wheel cleaner strip the coating? Wash there still evidence of protection?

Thank you Mark!

I don't believe the wheel cleaner stripped the coating as the wheels beaded up pretty well after rinsing down.

Outstanding write up MIKE! Your work is one of a kind my friend, wheels and car look fantastic buddy:)

Thanks a bunch Kyle!

I never saw a 50/50 on a wheel spoke either. This may be the first time documented. I may be a bit anal about polishing but it made for a good picture!

Hope all are enjoyed this massive thread.

:)

That's a Sir Review Mike, very well documented.

I'm relying on PBL Wheel Coating to my customers without complaints but good results, although we all know there's no perfect (nor Magical!) product to date, PBL Wheel Coating can be listed as one of the best options available.

Thanks for sharing,

Kind Regards.

Thanks for the update. I have this on my shelf ready to use once I get my new wheels.

The PBL line of products are great and provide lasting results.

Sure thing. Thanks.

Thank you James!

has anyone applied this product on powdercoated matte finish's ? The matte finish seems to be really porous and has that dry look/feeling. I do know that most any surface protection will richen the color, but my main concern is getting an even application with the product . anyone ?

Great write up and review. You have convinced me to use this product. Have you used any of the other black label coatings?

I have not coated a powder coated finish.

This thread changed my mind about wheel coating! I'm picking some up with next order.

Wheel coating are the only way to go! Love PBL wheel coating. Awesome stuff.

This thread got me to buy this stuff today! :p

Can't wait to use them on my AMG/base aluminum lipped Monoblocks! :)

@Mike DedicatedPerfection. Have you ever used this product on a customers wheels without removing the wheels from the vehicle?

I'm guessing no, but I'm curious to know from your real world experience with using it.

I just performed my first wheel coating today with DP wheel coating on a new set of black painted wheels. The wheels are take offs from a custom conversion and I just wanted black instead of standard silver. I was pleased how simple this coating was to apply. Now I have almost the same 4 oz. that I started with and will be looking for more wheels to coat. My prep work was some Blackfire APC to get some dealer tire dressing off the rims then I used CarPro eraser to clean them before the coating application.I have to admit I feel like the paint is so smooth that nothing will stick to it even air.

I wonder how well this would work on a Mustang with Brembo brakes. They dust worse than any car I have ever had. It releases easy enough as is, but they are a pain to clean.
