Collinite 845 and Meguiar's M16 paste wax review

OK, so I finally got the chance to do some maintenance washes today. The high was 62, low humidity. Beautiful day. I haven't done these cars since about the middle of January or so (about a month and a half ago), so these waxes really got put to the test. These cars have been through hell the past month. Several snows, ice, rain, cold, just general blah. See this post on MOL to see some pics of what our cars have had to put up with. Pics shown were taken I believe on January 30. OK, on to the pics. Each car wash washed with Meguiar's Shampoo Plus, 2BM (no grit guards though - supposed to get them tomorrow), and a microfiber chenille mitt. Please note: all rinsing done after the wash was done with the nozzle on. I did not use the flooding method at all, so the water you see left on the surface was a result of the wax itself, not as any attempt by me to have any less or more water on the car (I hope that just made sense). To try to make this easier, I've put each car, described the process and wax I used in January, and then followed that with pics and my observations. No after pics, as my purpose was to give a fair review of these waxes, not show off the cars. I'll do that after they get their full details. :props: I think I've given both of these waxes a fair chance to prove themselves, sooooo...

2000 Honda Accord

Process done in January
Wash
Clay
Collinite 845

dirt before wash

bleh

water beading after initial rinse, but before wash

I don't know if you can see this very well or not, but there is absolutely no beading on the bottom half of the car

water beading after wash and rinse

surprisingly little water left on the car

1990 Honda Accord

Process done in January
Wash
Clay
NXT 2.0
M16

plenty of dirt

water beading after initial rinse, but before wash

hard to tell in this pic because of the light color of the car, but there is zip beading below the door handles

water beading after wash and rinse

hard to tell, but again, surprisingly little water left on the car

water beading on trunk (that's not a scratch on the trunk, that's just some weird reflection)

1995 Olds Cutlass

Process done in January
Wash
Collinite 845 applied over a week old application of NXT 2.0
(didn't need to be clayed, so I skipped that step)

water beading after rinse but before wash

zero beading on the bottom of the car

beading after wash and rinse

beading on roof after wash and rinse (that's not dirt in the picture, that's just some weird reflection)

more beading on roof after wash and rinse

some beading on the bottom of the car, but it is wearing off

My thoughts on these two products:
As you can see from the pics, both products did an excellent job of protecting the paint. Obviously at this point on all three vehicles, the protection is wearing off, as indicated by lack of uniform beading. It is difficult to say which of the two protects better. I do wonder if the NXT affects the Collinite at all, because the beading on the Cutlass was less uniform than on the 2000 Accord. I feel that the protection of Collinite 845 and M16 is about equal. I did notice after the wash that none of the cars had any slickness at all like a freshly waxed car does, but this is to be expected. This was easily corrected with a spray detailer or spray wax. You've seen my pics, you can decide for yourself whether or not you would use either one of these waxes, but I feel that both of them make excellent winter waxes, and I give them both :dblthumb2:.

Cobra Guzzler Waffle Weave review

This is my review of the Cobra Guzzler Waffle Weave. This was my first time using this product, and I was very pleased with it. After rinsing and using a water blade to remove most of the water, I just went ahead and wiped the car off with the Guzzler. It is amazing absorbent for being a relatively small towel. It left no spots or drips. Just did the job so well. I love it! I don't know what else to say. It just works. I give it :dblthumb2:.

FK 425 review

OK, I'm not really sure what to think about FK 425. It is not as easy to apply as say, Meguiar's Last Touch. It applies more along the lines of a product like Ultimate Quik Detailer. I found that you have to spray, wipe a few times, and then buff. I think it has a bit of a learning curve, and I'll just have to use it a few times in order to master it. I applied it to the 1990 Accord after washing and drying, and I must say, that little car looked damn good afterward! Should've taken a pic, but I got busy with my car and I forgot. FK 425 added some slickness to the paint as well. Hard for me to rate this product yet, but I will still give it :dblthumb2:.

Sorry this post was so long. I do hope you enjoyed my very first product review on Auto Geek Online. Thanks for looking! :thankyousign:

Thank you for the product reviews! Cars looks great by the way, that 2000 Accord is a nice little car.

I am sure you know this already but a lot of the time when you spray down a dirty/salty car the bottom lower panels do not really bead up due to all the salt. Usually after you wash it then rinse it will bead up. Thats just my experience anyways.

Yes, I knew that. I merely used it as a point of reference for before and after pictures to see how the dirtiest areas of the car would affect the wax. :props:

Thanks for your time. Please keep us updated on that FK 425. I am looking forward to trying that out and I'm always up for more opinions of it.

I agree with your review of FK425, but the results speak for themselves in my opinion. It leaves a great finish and is bullet proof in terms of over application and any environmental conditions it is applied under.

Indeed. I couldn't believe how great that car looked after only a wash and an application of FK 425! Wow! I could kick myself for not taking a picture. Oh well. Some other time. I think I'm going to have to use it a few more times in order to get used to it. :xyxthumbs:

It is definately best to apply it sparingly, which is hard to do with the bottle it comes in. I would love to see some pictures too, thankfully you have plenty of FK left over to post pictures of after the next round!

I love FK #425! The only issue that I had, it doesn't play well with Dodo Juice Red Mist. Other than that no problems. Not sure what your method is, but I spray on, spread with MF towel, then buff with a different MF towel. I have always used a 2 towel method with qd's or qw's with great success. What type of towel are you using? Also, unless Meguiar's changes my mind at Detail Fest I will bring home 4 gallons of FK #425!

Interesting thought. I've never thought of using the two towel method to do a QD. Never used the two towel method for much of anything, come to think of it. Might have to give that a try some time. I guess I've never had a need for two towels with any other QD. To date, I think that Meguiar's Last Touch and FK 425 give the best looks of any QD I've used. That's just my opinion, of course. FYI, I used a Meg's Supreme Shine towel with the FK 425.

BTW, why do you need 4 gallons of FK 425? :p

Thanks for the reviews, I as well find that FK425 just needs a light mist and a second wipe for easiest application.

Great write up. I use 845 on my wheels and love it. And tried the FK 425for the first time this weekend and loved it. I washed the truck and dried it and hit it with the 425. Wow clean and easy.

Some may think this is a waste of towels, but if you stock up then no worries. Also I'm not a pro that does this daily so I don't need to conserve towels! Way back I used to only have 100% terry towels. So honestly for 15 years now and before the forums I have applied this method.

Why do I need 4 gallons of FK 425? :D

nice reviews. I'm almost out of NXT and struggling with the thought of not buying another. I have the 845 but haven't put it to use enough to really gauge much.
