Water vs oil/silicone/wax etc.. based compounds and polishes. Like products from Presta an Farecla. Besides dieback from the oils. What are there pros and cons, ease of use?

Umm. Water based polishes, compounds and glazes .What are there pro and cons.

Most polishes are a combination of water and oil and possible silicone. The relative proportions are what tends to differ but there is simply no way for the average user to know if the products are oil in water or water in oil or even more complex emulsions. To be totally frank, I am quite confident that most brands out there could not even answer this accurately.

There is little point focusing on this particular detail.

I cannot give you a technical breakdown to. answer your question but can tell you that a water based product is much easier to clean up.....sort of like latex paint vs oil based paint. I use Presta polishes and love them. So much easier to remove and theywork as well or better than anything else I have used. It is water based and cleans up well. I suspect that the product breaks down a little faster and may require more product per job but is well worth the reduced hassle. I will not be using silicone based products again as I find them too time consuming. Just my experience. I use the presta with a rotary or DA polisher

I would be pretty certain there are very few if any silicone based products out there. On the other hand, it will probably be harder to find a product that does not contain silicones than one which does. Silicone containing products can be water based or oil based. Easy to clean products can be either water or oil based, it all depends on how the emulsion is produced. Some water based products can be extremely hard to remove.

Thankyou for the clarification. I am not up to speed on all the details of the contents of the various products. What I do know is that some systems are harder to remove than others. And some stain plastic more easily than others. As I said, the Presta polish is very easy to work with and I use a rotary buffer with it.
