Products you wasted your money and time on and why

I agree with Eldo2k. Meguiars Headlight Protectant. I saw this tread and was going to post about this product and noticed he beat me to it. It doesn't come off, made the headlights look dirty. I used Plastx by hand not much difference, Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with my GG3 and white pad, looked beautiful. After that treated them with Gyeon Q2 Trim, they look amazing.

CarPro Reload. Waste of money and time. Very little beading and did not last long. I'm a big fan of almost all other CarPro products except Fog Fight (another loser).

Meguiars Headlight Protectant.

Haaaaa what garbage! Can't you use any sealant and it would be way better? I got some in the kit and almost wanted to buy it in a bigger bottle. Then it dawned on me a lot of those consumer products are redundant and I think made just for people who only buy consumer to try to buy everything and waste their money. That's just my guess.

Cobra's clay mitt. I can work a panel for 5 min and not get anywhere near as smooth (via baggy test) as my nanoskin in 1 min.

I just got this one and didn't find it all that effective either. I does work better than the little nanoskin auto scrub sponge that I had cause it kept sticking to the paint and would leave black streaks every now and then.

Adam's tire shine is pretty terrible. It looks good for the first couple of hours then gets real splotchy for some reason. Smells good tho. Also his tire cleaner wasn't all that great either. I mean I guess technically it did work, but it took more than half the bottle to do the tires on my Expedition. I deff wouldn't buy it again.

And pretty much every chemical guys product I've tired I didn't really care for, except for inner clean. The one I didn't like the most is VRP. Much like the Adam's tire shine, it looks great for the first couple of hours then it kind of disappears. Streaks bad on black trim after a rain.

Meg's D101. CG's Leather cleaner. CG's All Clean +. Every tire and wheel cleaner that I've tried.

Meg's D108: not great for cars, but superb at tile, grout and other hard surfaces.

Just tried Uber rinseless as a waterless wash and wasn't overly impressed. Jury still out.

Mother's Back to Black Trim & Plastic Restorer.

I agree sort of.....as a stand alone its not that great. I like to use it for cleaning tired trim and or wax stained trim then topping with a trim sealant...... Most trim sealants/dressing only hide fading and or staining...

That reminds me. Ugh. $8 for megs "ultimate" black trim restorant. That stuff was garbage and I think they discontinued it. What a surprise.

Glad I am not the only one that does not like Adams tire shine. I also did not like their VRT. Thanks for the feedback on the tire & rubber cleaner. Sounds like another miss from them like the strip wash.

It is not discontinued. Meguiar's just recently tweaked the formula for it. I have never had any issues with it. Prepping the surface it is applied to is key.

Maybe the trim was the wrong kind of plastic

How are you using it? General cleaner? Tire Cleaner?
I've tried it inside @ 1:10. Lack of cleaning power showed here, plus bad smell inside of a car. Tried to use on engines. Poor cleaning power and rinsablilty really showed here.

I finally tried it full power on tires. It would cut dirt and dressings OK, but wouldn't touch browning. Rinsability here as well.

It's probably the worst Meguiar's product that I have tried. D114 would beat it out at nearly everything I tried, with far higher dilution ratios. Still sad for the loss of such a great product.

I would have to agree with this. I have had better results using D114 with specialty cleaners than D101 in any method. I'm going to miss that product when I run out of my stock in about 5 years (Just found another gallon that I didn't know I had a couple days ago.).

CG Diablo Wheel Gel. Like many others, I got drawn in to the CG hype with all their videos. Saw one where they used Diablo, and went for it. Fortunately, I did not jump in and buy a gallon. Smells like bubble gum, but is only an average wheel cleaner, at best. Ditto for CG Mr Pink...same story, same ending. No better than Meguiars Gold Class, at 1/3 the price of Mr Pink.

This product has always served me well for routine, maintainence washes. If the wheels are really bad, well, this isn't the product your looking for.....or the droids your looking for, LOL...move along, move along.

Just thought of a product I haven't been able to make work - Amazing Roll-Off. I saw a engine detail Mike Phillips did with it. So, I bought it to try it out. Tried cleaning engine area (Maybe only for light cleaning?), floor mats, tires, and even my fiberglass shower.

Everything I cleaned I could do much better than another product. So how has anyone made this product excel?

Yup, I had the same exact problem with it... I kept looking at the headlights wondering why they just didn't look right, then got a closer look and found all that residue from the product that just doesn't wipe off. My fix was M205 on a microfiber towel. Went over it lightly and they looked brand new again.

Yup, sealant from now on... You're right about most consumer products, but not all. There's a few gems out there on the consumer level that surpass anything you can find on the professional level.
i.e. Mothers Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner, TW Endura Tire/Trim Coat.. Megs Ultimate Compound is no slouch either, I prefer using it over M105.
Can't really think of much more than that though.

Cobra's clay mitt. I can work a panel for 5 min and not get anywhere near as smooth (via baggy test) as my nanoskin in 1 min.

What were you using as a lubricant? I have found that when using soap and water it doesn't really do much. Used with a clay lube though, and the paint turns out as smooth as using a regular clay bar. Hope that helps you

Got another one.

Optimum MDR.

Can't get it to remove any water spots and not even make a dent on really easily removed ones.

I even tried on my sink-nothing.

Had the same thing happen with MDR and Spotless. The thing I have noticed is that the spots have to be caught right away. If they are there more than a couple days old, forget it. I have only had success one time with ONR on some bird poop spots that were on gloss coat for a few hours. That is the only time it has actually worked.
