I think that is subjective. I have two puppies at home that test my patience just as much as my little ones do.

I thought about this for a business also, and would likely do well financially, but honestly the thought of a 20 degree morning having to wash a Toyota Camry and do a basic detail deters me from doing it. This way I can pick and choose which ones I do and just enjoy the end result. I don't want to loose that therapy then have nothing to enjoy.expdetailing

Yes, war sucks. I just medically retired from the Army 13B, and am trying to use detailing as therapy too. Seems I'm effing that one up slowly-but-surely, as you can see by my slightly aggressive posts, which I don't really recognize untill someone points it out to me. I guess as long as we can admit our mistakes and learn from them, there's hope.

I was told to relax by a forum member in this thread. I agreed. So, I went to wash my car in the driveway. Now my car is frozen-over withDG901 in the form of foam. True story.

That's too funny. I was retired as well (2012). 13D.
I'm using my 9-11 for a Bachelor's in Social Work. The plan is to continue my education while working for the VA to help other OEF/OIF generation vets (and eventually get a DSW and become a mover and shaker in the VA healthcare system)
Something I have learned was that if something causes more stress than it relieves, it does not behoove One to continue it. I may eventually do it on the weekends for profit, but probably not until my boys are older.

Yeah, it get's more funny. I retired in 2012 from Ft Drum, and have a BS in social work. I graduated, then joined the Army to pay student loans. Now, I am screwed-up mentally and emotionally that I can't help anybody. I'm pretty good at Pi$$ing people off or rubbing them the wrong way though.

NO problem, its getting views and people looking. I just wanted to help a friend. Seems like we are all vets anyway.
To @expdetailing there are many ways to get what you want to get across if someone either doesn't explain or sounds fishy or doesn't know what they are talking about. My only suggestion as a fellow vet is to ask it in a question rather than push it as a statement. You would get totally different results in responses. I do appreciate your responses to this thread, I am sure it was done with good intentions. I think on this forum we all are after the same results, helping others with information. I don't post a lot but have been on here for over a year and share everything I can to help others responsibly.
Take a look in show and shine--- 750hp NSX, 750iL BMW , Tale of Two Maseratis etc.... Good write ups that show all aspects of a high end detail.

Like I said no worries, life is too short. Its all about helping others for me. I jumped back too which I shouldn't have either, but thats being a male I guess.
We are all brothers in this thread and been through some of the same things. Lets get this guy helped and polish on......

Thanks for all of you Army guys service (or do I just say Soldiers) USMC here and suffer the same "problem" a lot of the time...not being able to say things in a nicer flowery way so people don't get offended. All is well now it seems.

I am not good at saying things in a "flowery way" either lol (my wife and MIL are constantly shooting lasers from their eyes at my bluntness) but I do try to refrain from aggressive overtones. However, like the great General Mattis once said, "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet"- an idea I live by.

Just to chime in on this thread...
Frank is a top notch detailer. He's been attending our Thursday project nights for probably around 2+ years now. I trust him with any tool on any car that we have here and if you look through the write-ups for the cars we've had here in the last two years they are all really nice rides.
Sometimes when I'm short on time and need to knock out the paint correction on a car Frank always volunteers to help out and I take him up on his offer because he's Uber Careful.
Here's just a few examples of some projects he's helped me with just this year.....

So I would highly recommend Frank to tackle this project. Whatever he charges will be fair and probably not enough to do justice for his talent.

1. Check the paint code to see if it has the Ceramiclear Paint System.
2. Look for signs that "someone else" has buffed the car previously and butchered the paint.

Thank you for this recognition. I'm all about helping other people get what they want and when it comes to finding a qualified detailer this forum is the best.
The clearcoat layer of paint is thin and this is why it's important to find a detailer that knows what they heck they are doing and will treat a customer's car just like they would treat their own car.
For you to come to this forum and search for a qualified detailer for someone you've probably never met personally is going above and beyond the call of duty I commend you for this action.
Keep in mind, I also teach detailers to do the same, that is to evaluate the customer before evaluating the car and make sure,
A: The customer has realistic expectations.
B: You as the detailer can match your services to their needs.

So I feel very comfortable recommending Frank to do the paint correction work as long as he does his due diligence and evaluates the customer first and the the car and if everything lines up then come to an equitable deal.
I would definitely recommend using my VIF form too.... it protects the customer as well as educates them and protects the detailer too....

And as the OP ended up stating, that's 20+ hours for a decent paint correction. (At least one that's ready for a coating imo.)

rops:If I had to work week in, week out I'd hate detailing. But doing paint correction when, where, and on WHAT I want is more relaxing than all the Xanax in the world.
