I posted some months back that I had planned to take my wife's 2001 black Toyota Camry and see if I could bring the paint back via 3M Trizact 3000 and 5000 sanding and then polishing the paint. This paint was wretched. Bird bombs, sitting out in the Carolina sun, pecan trees and just general nastiness.
Saturday was the day. I got to the shop around 9:00 and promptly got started. The hubcaps and tires were first as usual. The front caps had a lot of caked on brake dust, so I shot the whole cap with AF Iron-Out and let it dwell. I ended up having to grab a little piece of steel wool to get into the crevices and give me enough bite to pull the old stuff out.
Next up was tires, Tuff Shine cleaner twice over got the tires clean. These are new tires, so they did not have dressing, only dirt and brake dust.
Onto the exterior. I grabbed my foam cannon and foamed the car with Auto Finesse avalanche and let it dwell while I went around to emblems and windows with my small brush.
Hand washed with the two bucket method and then towel dried with forced air afterwards.
I taped off the rear trunk to get a 50/50 shot during the first process of sanding and then polishing.
This is what I started with: Lots of scars, holograms, etching, this paint had it all. I knew that 100% was out the door, but I felt that I could really get the paint back to looking much better and stall the new car looking...
rops:

After sanding:

After first polish: The combo was a Rupes yellow pad with FG400. A little trick I picked up from Tundrapower. There is plenty of cut to get the 5000 marks leveled and then as the FG400 breaks down, the yellow pad allows for a super finish.

Sort of a 50/50: Sanding on the right.

Some walk around and then finals:

This is my second step, Sonax PF 4/6, superb polish:

Finals:
Two coats of Tuff shine, final seal with Sonax PolymerNetshield.

Hope you enjoy!
