Prosthetic Leg

Wow, this accident could have gone so much worse. Very happy you could recover from it and become the guy you are today. So many people have learned so much from you. Thank you!

Good stuff! And I totally will admit I don't have the brass ones to get on a boat and go that fast.

Even watching those boat races scare the deal out of me.

It's one of those things that gets in your blood.

Even after I lost my leg, I rigged the gas pedal for my artificial leg and foot so I could nail it.

Then just hold on tight and feather the up and down pedals as needed.

Over the 20 years I owned the boat I raced a lot of guys and from memory, only 3 guys ever beat me.

Thanks for sharing, Mike. Thumbs up!

I'd actually rather have people know the story than guess or wonder?

Thanks for sharing the pics of your boat. Don't fret over selling her, we all have one (or 2 or 3) that got away.

Like a lot of "Car Guys" I've had a LOT of them get away. I really regret selling the Drab Boat and also the 1966 Chevy Milk Truck. Both had Big Block Chevy engines in them.

Wow Mike, you are definitely a stud!!

Very enjoyable post/read about your boat and 59 Cady, way, way too cool!!Q

Thanks Tad... once I got into big block Chevys when I was younger it was hard to get out.

I put a 468 into a 1959 Coupe... the below picture was my front driveway much to the chagrin of my neighbors.

Mike - as always thank you for your time to share a personal story.

Good luck getting your Chevy taken care of, I'm sure you're ready to get it back on the road!

Thanks Nate...

Made a lot of headway over the weekend...

mike, thanks for sharing your story. hope both your son and daughter are doing well... :)

Daughter is married and happy and my son graduates High School this Friday.

Hey Mike! Is this your YouTube page? It sounds like you.

I've been waiting to see an update.

Yes that's me after I applied POR-15 to the front frame of my 1978 Chevy. That project is on the back burner.

Wow, this accident could have gone so much worse.

That's right.

The prop could have hit my head, my neck or across my spine.

Very happy you could recover from it and become the guy you are today. So many people have learned so much from you. Thank you!

I've always had two passions...

1: I like to polish paint.

2: I like to show others how to polish paint.

I share this story on TV with Dennis Gage.

Thanks for all the comments guys...

I guess one take-away from my story would be... considering I'm missing my right leg....

If I can do it... so you you...

:)

Great history in this thread. Thanks Mike! Racing is absolutely, a disease. Horrible, expensive, best disease one can catch. I love reading other's racing stories, especially on water!

I was talking to someone(several years ago) who had a friend who rode motorcycles. His friend was riding down the road one day and felt something wet. Looked down and was missing his leg below the knee. He turned around and found his leg a bit back on the edge of the road. He had hit something on the edge of the road and it took his leg off. He didn't even realize it. I don't think the guy was lying to me.

Mike,

Wild Caddy "crew cab" without the top!

Did you do the top cut?

Damn Mike,

You’ve had some sweet toys!

Owning that boat for 20 years was way too much fun for any mere mortal being. :D

Sad to say, right now all I have is a mundane transportation car. As one of my old bosses used to say,

Timing is everything

My favorite NEWSLETTER is the VIP Newsletter from this place,

World Wide Vintage Autos

I'm pretty confident my next daily driver is going to be a 1972 Blazer or Jimmy. Either wild or mild. I'm a big fan of Big Block Chevy engines and 44" Boggers. But I can also appreciate a pristine time capsule find.

Their VIP newsletter goes out Thursday nights. It's truly the one newsletter I LOVE to get, open and then look at the most recent eye candy they've obtained.
