I cant believe im actually doing this, but on Wednesday next week, i will be giving an informative speech on "How to properly polish and wax a vehicle" in my college public speaking class. Im nervous lol

I assume that these students current waxing/ polishing knowledge is the usual- Turtle wax and hand applicator. I thought a simple 3 step process would get the main point across.( even though its more like 1000 step in a real detail situation). I wasn't aloud to go into washing, claying and any other prep work that might be needed.

The way i was going about this was i would choose 3 pads ( Orange, White, Red) and basically let the class know how the density of each foam pad creates a unique cutting ablilty( i can just see the confusion in their eyes right now lol). Then i would proceed to pair each pad up with its proper polish and/or wax. I would show them the DA needed for the job( since a rotary wouldnt be a good starter tool ) and speed needed to create a shinny, glossy result. Of course, thats not all im gonna goin to say to them, but you get the main idea. Of course, PICTURES too!! No one would believe me without those bad boys. If any of you guys have suggestions on teaching these people , id love to hear it. I want to get them informed and of course, maybe get them into the whole detailing mania lol

It seems like you got a good plan of attack. Being nervous is good, it keeps you on your toes. I'm sure you'll do fine since you are speaking about a topic you are passionate about.

Suggestions: Maybe pass some pads around so the class can feel the difference in density each pad has. Bring some good before and after photos, or take the class to see your car in person.

End the presentation with "I'd be happy to show some one on one instruction" (to the hottest girl in the class's car mind you).

Grab that number and post when you get that A

Ahhh public speaking lol, I had to do a project like that freshman year in college. Something unique always stands out and you feel comfortable talking about it when you have the experience in the subject as you can almost wing it. I did it on racing boats and jet skis' and everyone liked it, was the shiznit :D

Public speaking is good, even in my biz I sometimes have to present stuff for clients or on behalf of them with investors and can't f' up.

May I suggest having a panel that is half before and after, (as we see in show and shine). I would bring my covered prop and state your speech title. Then would uncover the panel, which will hopefully get their attention, and your audience is captured. Three main points. I suggest you do not pass photos, pads, leave them on display. Your audience will be looking at the photos instead of listening to you. Practice your speech in front of a mirror. Speak slower than you think you have to. Have lots of fun. The audience will pick up on your passion, and ignore mistakes, if any. Hope this helps.

I hate speaking in front of a lot of people. Small groups good! Large groups bad! You kow your in deep trouble when your voice starts cracking. I've gotten better with age. Maybe because I care less what people think now.
