could be sand, dirt, contaminents, and even minerals in the water. Why not use DP Glass Restorer or Glass Wax and see if you can remove it ??

I love a product from Novus, polishes 1,2,3, for plexiglass and glass surfaces. Plexus is more of a protectant than polish.

Ok folks - glass wax? WHat would that be?
Novus, never heard of that either but I am willing to try them. Some help on locating these items? Please????

ANyone use these??
Or glass wax, like kllr mentioned??

I am open to placing an order ... just what though.
And if it is going to be as much as the rplacement, then I wouldn't bother.

Thanks everyone for everything so far.
I am sure I trapped something in that towel and dragged it on the glass, cause everywhere else I used it prior looks GOOD!!
Thank you!

Here's an alternative . . . check with a local glass shop to see if they have "replacement glass" for your mirror.

When I broke the side mirror on my 85 Civic, I went to "J C's Glass" here in Phoenix & they replaced the glass for only $ 20!! :)

glass wax is no longer made, but can be caught on Ebay. Novus polishes are easily available, do a google search.

Maybe some of you guys can help me figure this out. I was using a Cobra indigo towel - clean of course - and ck quickshine on my car.
Figured while I was at it, I would clean the side mirrors as they were spotted from Tuesday's wash, and I never fixed them. CK -- it says on the bottle it is good for everything - including glass and mirrors, just not for use on tires.

I touched up a waterspot on my car with it, then used Stoner's glass with the towel to do the side mirrors; now one is all marred up. I used plexis, soap and water - no change. It is $40 for the mirror and $45 to install, so for now, I am leaving it.
But I am very unhappy.
WHY did this happen?
The towel did not damage or swirl the spot I touched up, and it was clean.

Anyone?
See this is what I have come to expect from American auto makers .... no offense to anyone. It annoys the hell outta me.

Hi Lauren,

It sounds like you may have picked up something in you towel. i have had this problem in the past. I used a glass polishing kit and it worked great. If the scratch is not deep it will work. The kit includes a marking crayon, felt buffing wheel, compound, a small sponge and instructions. Cost $29.95 If interested PM me and I will give phone #

In the older days, when you cleaned the mirrors, you just rubbed the glass, not the silvering - because it was applied to the other side. Nowadays, some American car manufacturers (or rather their suppliers) use to apply the reflective coating onto the front side of the glass. This results in a mirror surface coating which can damage easily and it can even peel off. I saw this exact issue on a 7 months old Crossfire. The dealer replaced it without a word.

so you think i should show them and see if they'll fix it?

Your poor car sure if having a tuff time Lauren. You finally get the swirls out then your mirror gets scrached. I hope this is the end of your car problems.

Lauren, I'd take it back to the dealer. Does Chevrolet really think that a mirror won't survive a wipe (even with dirt in it)? Just let's be real. Is there any specific description of mirror care in the OM? I don't think so. And while you are not supposed to do ultrasonic cleaning, a towel (as a simple household method) is an acceptable way of cleaning; no question.

Knowing GM I doubt it lol.

Lauren - Most car manufacturers now have a reflective coating on the outside that scratches very easily, our Lexus LX470 has some light swirls in the side view glass as well, barely noticable but their there. One of my trucks (Mountaineer) has some swirling after I was using #0000 steel wool on glass to get off waterspots last year and went to do the sideview mirror forgetting about the coating, I stopped after a few swipes that put ton of swirls into the glass. Can't really see except when light hits it directly then it looks fugged up lol.

The reflective coating is way more sensative then paint, one light piece of grit will cause swirl city. Now I'm real careful with sideview mirrors and haven't noticed any extra swirling.

You have no idea how easy it is to scratch glass coated or not. I Temper glass for a living and I can tell you it really doesn't take much for glass to be scratched. Normally once it scratched it's done for you really can't buff it out unless it's really really fine.
