Here's my experience, when you see the product start to flash then start wiping.
Flash means evaporation. I think some would like to think it means something more scientifice or even esoteric, but it doesn't. It means the carrying agents or solvents are drying or moving from liquid to gas and leaving the solids behind on the surface.
As these solids then start to dry or bond or set-up, they become a semi-permanent part of the surface.
When you go to wipe them off they seem to be sticky and that's because they are sticking or bonding to the surface.
Most if not all your established brands of coatings are the real deal and after application to the surface they bond instantly.
I know for some people, it's hard to wrap your brain around the science or technology that enables a product to make an instant bond to the surface, I'm like this. BUT - according to REAL AUTHENTIC CHEMISTS I know and trust, and have spoken to about this topic, this is what's happening.
So if the directions say to wipe off in 30 seconds. Start wiping in 30 seconds.
If the directions say to wipe off in 45 seconds. Start wiping in 45 seconds.
If the directions say to wipe off when you see the coating start to flash - start wiping.
If you wait to long the solids that are the actual coating are bonding to the paint and are NOT going to want to be MOVED AROUND easily and by the words moved around, I mean wiped-off.
Make sense?
