I was working on my wifes car this weekend I noticed that my pad was not sitting flat on the panel when I had my pc on 5. It had a bowl look to it, and if I went to 6 well now way it just formed around the back plate. Is this caused by to much product build up and time to clean the pad and use a new one? I noticed when I was done with half the car. I probably answered my own question but I need to make sure lol. Thanks for the help..:dblthumb2:

After a few uses and cleanings the middle of my pads are "concaved" like the foam was destroyed in the middle deep down adn the middle is sinking in. I am very interested in the answer to this as I dont know if its improper technique using them or cleaning them. I was thinking to much heat build up may be melting the foam down on the back of the pad... like the PC is generating that much heat or something. I always polish on 6.... the 4 inch are alot worse then the 5.5's but they are also thicker

If possible, please post some pictures so that we can take a look at the pads. Also, contact us with your order/invoice number so that we can help.

You'll usually see a bowel appearance when using a smaller backing plate on a foam pad. Which picture best shows how your backing plate looks when attached to your foam pad.

5" and 6" Backing Plates on 6.5" pads (Pictures to show safety margin)

Damn batteries dead in camera! I am using the 4 inch spot buff pads. the concave center is a permanent change int he shape of the pad. I know I am doing something wrong just not sure what it is

Same here batteries dead. Im using the 5" backing pad. My pads lay flat for a few panels then they start to bowl. ( just the center of the pad is on the panel). Once I clean them and let them dry they are fine. I have only used them 2 times so I dont think the foam has broken down inside the pad yet. When I turn the pc up to 6 thats when it wraps over the backing pad and just the center is on the panel of the car. So is this because I need to clean the pad and put a new one on? I know It takes more than 1 pad of each color to do a car, so maybe thats what I need to do. :dblthumb2:

when you use a 5" backing plate and 6.5" pads, after a while you'll get the cookie cutter concave effect. it happens when you put pressure on the pad and run it for a while as it gets broken in. here's an example if you look closely at the pic...

I understand that kind of deformity... but mine are concave after washing when not in use. When looking at the face of the pad, not the backing the middle is compressed down about 1/2 the dpeth of the pad.

I am trying to find out what is causing this and if I am able to continue to work these pads when they are like this. They are not cheap I cant afford to keep replacing them
