Question about collinite 845

I sealed the family cars up with wgdgps for the winter, but after reading about collinite's 845 being an awesome winter wax, I ordered sone and would love to try it. Question is, am I wasting my time applying it over the wgdgps, or would it be beneficial as I'm just adding another layer of protection? I know wgdgps is awesome as is and I love it, but I also love waxing and adding more protection ;) but with it getting colder quick, I don't want to waste my time putting it on it it's gonna be a waste of my time. Input is appreciated!
 
845 has plenty of solvents so it'll be just fine on top of most anything. Leave a section of just WG and see how they compare.
 
Oh I agree Chris, I have 2 coats on them as is of dgps, it's just my OCD of wanting to use another wax and add extra protection for winter. I've used the dgps before with only one coat and it lasts forever it seems, it's great stuff

in terms of protection 476 > 845
it's harder to work with and it gums up your foam applicator but it sure it durable. It would probably work well on top of that WG sealant. If you are going for durability, might as well go whole hog.
 
For winter here's my plan and it always includes a sealant then Collinite 845..

After a complete wash and clay, my 1999 Dodge Dakota will get a quick polish with Menzerna Super Finish PO106 FA. This really does a great job at removing most minor surface defects and the gloss is outstanding.

Once this is completed I'll do 2 coats of Menzerna Power Lock sealant, 12 hours apart, then a final coat of Collinite 845 ....

All the plastic trim will be treated with CQuartz DLux Plastic & Wheel Coating and the windshield will be cleaned and protected using Aquapel.

Throughout the winter I'll wash and maintain using several products especially a quality spray wax like Optimum Spray Car Wax or Duragloss Aquawax ..

Awesome Bobby i'm definately doing the 845 over the wolfgang...do you use the 845 on your wheels? How do they hold up? Easy to clean and maintain?
 
Whats this winter prep stuff? hahaha here in So Cal, we're lucky we have no winter! It does make me jealous though you guys get to have fun with winter combos!

I'm not jealous at all. They have to deal with snow and salt all over their cars, we don't. I'd take that any day of the week over trying out winter combos lol

But... lately my girlfriend's car has undergone lots of wax stripping and different waxes, so I kind of have a test car hahah :buffing:

Lucky are you! I hate winter time with sand and salt all over the car and I don't have a garage....not forgetting snow storms and -20o F temperature.
 
ive read about alot of sucess topping WG with a variety of products nubas and the like, and many report great results with the collonite.

i was planning the 2 coats of WG and topped with collonite on my truck for my winter clean up, but i just ordered some Opti Coat...never tried it...so fingers crossed.

hey bobbyG...how does Dlux work on testured plastic. i have a 4th gen ram with textured plastic door handles, mirrors, and bed rail protectors. i tried KAIO on them and they still go white...id love something better!

You can test winter-prep combos yourself. Just apply them to your car, and then do as little as you can detailing wise to it in the next 4-8months.:D

The key to surviving winter is to embrace it.:xyxthumbs:

I put two coats of Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection sealant and one coat of Collinite 845 on my Jetta a couple of weeks ago. Today, I came out after work and the car was covered with water spots. Apparently they must have turned on the sprinklers for a few seconds because they were small spots, but they were everywhere.

When I got home, I tried to remove the spots with Meg's QD, but that did nothing. I tried Ultima Waterless Wash Plus and also had no luck removing the spots. I can't believe these spots won't come off with all that protection on the paint!

Do I have to go back to square one and wash, polish, seal, and wax?

Thats weird they wont wash off....you have ALOT of protection on that paint. What color is your paint? Are you sure its water spots?.....sorry had to ask.

Two of the cars in my family fleet are German, absolutely miserable for brake dusting. After a thorough cleaning they each got a coat or two of 845. Now, all that's necessary for maintenance is to use my leftover wash media, either soap or ONR with a soft brush. If I'm doing a bucket wash, all but a thin film of the brake dust blows off with the hose.
It lasts for months. I see absolutely no need for a dedicated wheel sealant. 845 or 476 definitely rocks for wheels!

I have to agree both my vehicles get 845 on the paint and the wheels. It does s great job. I will second the part of not seeing a point for wheel sealant.

I usually just wax or seal my wheels with whatever I put on the paint, and I was just curious if 845 does any better of a job than say wgdgps. From what I'm hearing the wheels will be getting a coat or two on all the cars

The car is dark grey. Yeah, I'm sure they are water spots but I don't blame you for asking since this baffles me, too.

I'm going to try to wash them off this weekend. I really hate the idea of doing a strong wash and starting the whole process over again. In fact, if I do that much work and still get water spots that easy, I may just give up...
 
I had the same type of thing happened when I tried to put Zaino Z-2/Z-5 on top of Prima Amigo. This was way back when Amigo just came out. The first time the car got wet I had white spots everywhere that I couldn't remove with shampoo or QD. It looked like dried wax around the edges (circumference) of the spots. Ended up spraying each panel with Prep-All panel wipe, then started over again.

I've heard others having good luck putting Zaino on top of Amigo since then so maybe something in Amigo has changed since then
