question about converting to ONR

Hi, I have a couple questions regarding my plan on how I take care of my personal car. (I am a beginner)

I normally wash, correct, wax with my Griot's garage 6 about once every 6 months and hit it with liquid nxt 2.0 only no correction, every 3 months after that. In between I would only wash and use megs ultimate quik spray every 2 weeks

at the end of the 2 weeks, the car is pretty dusty/dirty with bugs.

I am getting really lazy in doing washes every 2 weeks with a hose and 2 buckets.

I want to know if I can do ONR instead or is my car too dirty for it after 2 weeks and I would probably have to ONR weekly?.

either I convert to ONR, or im thinking of investing in a pressure washer + foam cannon to reduce the amount of work involved in washing. I would still have to dry the car, another thing am starting to dislike.

let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance

Well ONR isnt for mud caked cars, but if you car has minor dust and dirt you should be fine. No one can know if you car is too dirty without photos of what "dirty" is to you! :) You dont have to ONR wash weekly, but I know I do, its all in preference and how often you want it clean!

The more often you wash your car the less dirty it will be therefore making rinseless washing safer. After a big rainstorm I usually just use the traditional 2 bucket method and then if I haven't driven in rain the next time I wash it I will just use a rinseless wash. But my car is very low to the ground (lowered trans am) so it picks up crap off the roads easier than trucks and suvs.
Also, the harder your paint is the less likely you will induce marring with any type of wash so you be the judge.

Get a pressure washer. If you foam and pressure rinse first, you can knock off enough dirt to easily do a rinseless wash. You will have to use DI water or work inside though to do it that way, or you will get spots. It's still a little faster than a 2BM with the same steps IMO.

I don't like doing rinseless washes without pressure rinsing first. It's just to easy to knock 80% of the dirt off with the power of pressurized water. But, I'm not concerned with time either.

The thing about rinseless washes you will have to come to grips is doing the wheels. If you like your wheels perfectly clean, traditional methods are still required for most situations.

The way I do it is:

-Pressure rinse each wheel and clean traditionally with wheel cleaner and a pressure washer.

-Foam vehicle. While foam is dwelling, I clean all the glass and intricate areas with different boars hair brushes.

-Pressure rinse.

-DI water final rinse

-Rinseless wash via GDWM with DI water.

*** If you do it that way, its a but faster than a 2BM because your drying as you go along. Since it's all DI water on the car, working in the blazing hot sun actually helps you dry the car IME. It turns what usually is a detriment (blazing hot sun) into a benefit (sun helps dry car spot free with DI water).

Unless you have been 4 wheeling or have caked on road salt typ stuff that would scratch the paint....ONR works great. I harly ever bucket wash any of my 3 cars anymore.

thanks guys... yeah my car is definitely not caked with mud or anything. Just a lot of highway driving through the city which most are under construction. So lot of construction dust. Aside from that I get pollen and bugs.

it is a silver 2003 bmw with healthy original paint. swirls and imperfections barely show. so I dont spend too much time correcting. I just polish for the shine.

I think I will give ONR a try. I just did my traditional wash/correct/wax + one extra coat of UQW spray. Hopefully it will be one of the last times I wash with water.

slightly off topic,
Does ONR remove liquid NXT 2.0 wax?.

Is it possible for me to not use my GG6 and apply polish and nxt wax ever again (maybe once a year if that) and just use ONR + UQW spray every 2 weeks from now onwards?

or is UQW spray no where near as protective as the real thing?. car does spend a few hours under the sun while parked in lots. At home it stays in the garage.

I just love how easy it is to apply UQW. It literally takes only 20 minutes for me.

if not, Is there a spray wax that is very protective?

thanks

ONR will not remove wax or sealant from your car. For longer lasting protection in a spray wax, I recommend Optimum Car Wax. Just as fast as UQW but lasts much longer. UQW is more of a "top-up" whereas OCW is designed to protect like a regular wax.

1) Nope. ONR won't remove your wax. As a matter of fact, if you use ONRWW or DG, it will add some.

2) Depending on your level of care, you may very well be able to go a year between corrections. My beater DD gets a full machine polish in the spring, almost 100% ONR or DG rinseless washes and a wax job about every six weeks, depending on what new-to-me product I'm trying out. Sometime I'll do a quick polish on an area during the year if I catch a scratch, blemish or fallout that needs clayed.

3) Try DG Aquawax or Optimum Car Wax (both are sprays) if you're looking for more durability. UQW is pretty darn good, however. Another very easy to use product is Optimum Opti Seal. It's a wipe-on, walk away product that's about as easy to use as a spray, since there's no buffing and protects about as well as anything shy of Collinite or a coating.

Others may chime in that you're an ideal candidate for a coating and they're probably right, but I enjoy playing with my cars enough that I haven't had the desire to do a coating yet on anything but headlights.

Bill ( I gotta learn how to use the multi-quote feature!)
