Question about DG Process

Thinking of stripping my DG and starting over, as I want to lay down some 105 and then collinite. Is 501 good enough to really clean, or should I hit it with my Sonax Premium Paint cleaner, then 501, 105, 845?

Thinking the Sonax is redundant, but would like your thoughts.

If you use DG 501 you will be laying down protection. The cleaners in it will remove existing protection but will leave something behind. If you want to start with a bare surface you will need to use a polish without protection such as DG #652 Pre-Clean #2 or M205 etc. Then apply DG 105. Make sense?
 
sure does. Since I am going to be laying down 105 as well, I dont really have an issue with 501 leaving protection. I was just wondering if it was necessary to have a bare surface before 501, which I guess the answer is no.

If I'm wrong, lemme know! :)
 
I think 501 is a great cleaner, which means its purpose is really to clean the paint. Its protection, in my opinion is merely secondary, but no slouch at all. So yes, it is unnecessary to clean the paint before 501. If you clean it with a product other than 501, you can already proceed with 105, as Richard said.

@Richard, if he doesn't mix 501 with 601, he should let the 501 cure first before applying 105. Is that correct? If yes, is there any adverse effect if he does not let it cure other than losing the protection of 501?
 
I will be mixing with 601, so that's not a problem. When topping the 105 with 845, is there a required wait time if I've used 601 with the 105?

Combining Duragloss 105 and 601 boosts both the gloss and durability...according to what I've read. What I can tell you is the results, if the finish was properly prepped, is breathtakingly gorgeous! :coolgleam:

I'm not sure if anyone's ever testing the Collinite 845 topping but I'd wait overnight then apply the following day...

Nope. I use a 3 step process on my funeral home cars:
601/501
601/105
Colli 845.

Each stage goes over the other one immediately afterward. Results are stellar. Other than a nano coating, nothing will beat that combo.
 
Thanks for the help. I really want a stout combo. I have 501 and 105 on the car now. I use AW after almost every wash and let me tell you, I may never use another combo again. Easy to clean, slick, and looks great, even on white. Very little maintenance needed other than washing.

I think adding 845 on top will take it up a notch for sure. I like the bright look of 845, and with that combo I am confident I wont have to do much but wash and AW for a long time.

DG is truly a gem. Great price, easy to use, durable, and great looking.
