Question about Meguiars' Ultimate Wax

Thanks Tim, my name is Mike by the way. I was reading Mike Phillips article about IPA solution mixing and will be using that dilution after reading it. Tried a few test spots using some products in my stash and found Mothers Reflections worked great without smearing so far. Let's see if I change that opinion after a few days...

So should I be doing an I.p.a. wipedown after the u.p. or not?

The description does say "...and deepens the paint color with rich polishing oils". Although it should be good to go after polishing and wiping away all residue, an IPA or MS wipedown may be in order. Sounds like there was still polish residue/oils on the paint. Do some test sections and try the wax on another car and compare results. Good luck!

I asked this same question to Meguiars reps when this problem first occurred and they said I would be fine to apply the wax immediately after removing the polish without an IPA or MS wipedown.

Is it possible that maybe you got a bad bottle? Maybe megs will be willing to swap you! Just a suggestion! I had a problem a while back with a megs product that I purchased from a local detailer supplier shop and he swapped it for me! And later he told me that the Megs rep had no problem replacing it. Megs does stand behind their products!

That avenue was explored early in the story, they sent me the paste version to try since I was having such trouble with the liquid version. I'm willing to try it again after the potential need for an IPA wipedown after polishing was brought up earlier.

I must have a bad tin too! lol.

The smearing happened to me also. Is it the type of smearing that you can only see while moving, like walking in a parking lot on a sunny day? A "sealant hologram", if I may?

I gave up on Meguiars' new sealants after my tin of Ultimate Paste.

I don't buy the whole "applied to much , apply it with a da, apply it then this, that and the other".

Imo, it is a consumer product, and should be easier to use without streaking.

I have an extensive collection of waxes, and some are simply easier to use than others, especially if on a dark vehicle....

Is the consumer going to know, or want to wipe his paint down with ipa every time they wax their car?

I'm sorry, I didn't catch that! I agree with the above...It should be easy on and easy off as it is a consumer product! I have found Megs products to be streaky in the past myself which is why I don't use or own any of their LSP's anymore!

Dr. Oldz... don't be sorry, especially not to me. I only quoted the post above mine because of the ipa reference.

My problem wasn't with the holograms you mentioned but with being able to see the product smear like an oily film on the surface when I would wipe the car with a towel or even
with my finger. I know what you mean with all the recommended steps to get the surface looking good that shouldn't be necessary with a product such as this even with it being a "clean sheet of paper" product. I'm going to try it once more but on a different car since my black car and this wax don't get along.

That is what I meant also, the continuous smearing of the same oily substance.

If you were to stand back from the surface, and the light hits the car just right, it looks (@ least to me) like light hologramming.

I know exactly what you mean. (unfortunately)

I think there was one instance where I did see the hologram effect like that. Oh well, there's always Mothers...

All good!!! I didn't realize that he already tried another tin(which made my post of swapping it out useless).....I should have read a little better!!

I'm planning to change my wax over to this product and stand behide it. I used 5 gallon of wax a month of bc-2 from auto magic. I been using this wax for 5 yrs and for me to switch over mean alot.
