Question about my UDM???

Not sure how to really state this question correctly but I will give it a go. When I use my UDM it seems like the speed control dial doesn' t react in a linear fashion. Like if 6 is 100% speed shouldn't like 4 be 66% speed. It doesn't seem that way. 4 is probably 30% speed. I could live with that but the biggest issue is that I don't get full speed unless I physically hold the dial all the way to the full speed notch. If I release the dial it will cut back like 30% or so of its full speed. Kind of hard to get an exact number on the speed reduction but thats what it feels like in my hand. I am certainly an amateur but I would think that if I turned the dial to 6 shouldn't I get full power without having to jam the dial up and hold it there. Its kind of hard to control using one hand on the unit and one at the back to keep the dial jammed up. Has anyone else had this issue? I just emailed my local distributor but I would really love to hear if someone else has had a similar issue or am I just not experienced enough and the condition I describe is normal?
