I ordered a PC7424 from the Geek. I broke it out today after reading the instructions. I can not find the variable speed wheel it's supposed to have. I called Porter Cable Tech line and they told me it's electronically set up, meaning it'll go from 2.5 opm to 5-6k obp is this true?
I'm not buying it. The manual says the adjustable speed wheel is right in front the start swith.
Can somebody explain this to me, or are there other models that have that wheel, and the 7424 doesn't?
Thx-Goose

if it like mine the wheel should be at the base. Beside where the cord enters the machine. Red dial like in pic.

on/off switch and speed changer are on completely different parts of the machine....

Goose ... you been sniffing to much Rejex, the speed setting dial is in the rear.

Hahaha!!!! I need to put the RejeX pipe down, Scott!
You guys are right. It's at the base of the power cord. :o
I guess I shouldn't feel too bad considering the Tech Line at PC told me it was automatic! Hehe! It was a lady I talked to, if that means anything :)
Thank you!, and you all have a safe and happy holidays!

That's pretty scary huh?
I have more respect for people when they're straight up, and tell me that they don't know the answer, rather than blatantly insult your intelligence. Lucky for me, my PC was already set-up at 1k OPM out of the box.

Thanks again. The PC is really a cool tool. I practiced yesterday on my friend's Grand Am, and today I did the hood and front nose on my Z06, and the hood on my friends T/A. We plan on finishing this weekend. So far, I've been ecstatic about the PC

Luckily, I got to see the PC before I bought it because I couldn't find it on the display model either.
I just got mine about a month ago and my neighbor tells me that I'm polishing too much! I got so addicted that I had to find another car to do.

I hear you there. It's really a cool tool. I almost regretted buying it, when I thought I would be better off with a Rotary buffer, but now that I know what the PC can do, I'm more at ease. I doubt I'll ever have to do cars where a rotary would be required, but then again, you never know. I hope that by next year I would get the Cyclo Dual Polisher, just because it will be faster to do paint corrections on a vette, and a lot easier to handle than a rotary. I have limited experience with a rotary, and it will take a bit of time for me to be comfortable using one; the PC seems to fit the bill for me.

I've tried three different cars so far, and when people say the Vette CC is hard, that's no joke!
I was able to see immediate improvement on a Grand Am and a Trans-Am but my own Z06 was tough as nail, although after 3 passes I've started to see some improvement. I was just using 3M 39009 Foam Pad Glaze with a white pad. I think I'm going to step up to the 3M 39002 and the orange pad for some other imperfections the 39009 was not able to make the progress I was hoping for.
