How many of you are the so called "Jack of all trades" meaning, you guys do any and everything related to mobile services. Windshield Repair, Dent Repair, Interior Repair, Window Tint, Rim Repair... I've tried to add some of these services but have found at times it takes away from what we do best. Detail Cars. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the the bigger pay days. But there is a part of me that says Master one thing and let the other masters do what they do. So year after year I'll add a service, then I take it off.

Do you find it's easier to just farm work out to those who have mastered there craft and take a kickback from them or would you rather do it yourself???

:buffing:

I only detail. I'm part time so I have no problem staying as busy as I want to be. I would not have the time to do all the extras.

When I was full-time mobile detailing, for the general public and private dealerships, I often thought about doing more than just detailing, mostly during slow periods.

More services = More money, right? Nope.

In the end, the more services you offer spreads you thin and you're left with a choice to train and pay more people to do YOUR job, do more paperwork for taxes and profit and loss, etc. or just stick with what you're good at in the first place. I like the KISS method. It works.

I've found that since establishing myself, I have made some very nice professional contacts along the way. A lot of them are just like myself who take their work seriously and put their heart in it. When someone I do work for needs something outside my capabilities, I give them a name and number, often calling the contact on the spot and they have an appointment before I've even left.

It is much easier to make a "network" of cosmetic vehicle repair specialists than it is to try and make yourself a 'jack of all trades' as you called it. In the end it is much more rewarding, too. They have clients you don't and vice versa. Most professionals have no problem referring you if you return the favor so you end with a win-win situation.

Just my two cents :)

Detailing, polishing, headlights. That's it. May get into PDR in the future. But that's as far as I wanna go.

Contract out the work, make like 10% off the work you setup. Fwiw tinting windows mobile is difficult. If you wanna do something mobile that's not detailing do pdr work, great money and steady business. The initial invest isn't bad if you just get the basic tools but can get expensive in a hurry if your looking for all the goodies.

I'm considering doing PDR. Have to get tools/training. That's the only additional thing I'd do just because I get asked all the time.
