Question on which pad to use on griots da

I am doing a wash, claybar then using Blackfire polish and seal.
I was wondering what color pad to use. I am using a 6inch griots da. I have orange red and black pads.
 
Welcome to autogeek...as for your question you most likely will use a Black pad, though a test spot will confirm, and as time go on it will be beneficial to get more pads, and or different size backing plates to expand your horizon.....happy detailing
 
Blackfire polish and seal... you mean Blackfire total polish and seal? If so then i'd personally go with a white pad. I HAVE used orange pads in the past but i don't really see an advantage to using them since you don't have much cut.
 
I would also agree a white pad may be the best option. Everything is a variable though. Paint condition what you are expecting as a result and how soft the paint is.
 
It is a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek, when you say white pad, what pad do you reccomend? When I bought the griot da it came with the orange red and black pads. I don't think they have a white pad.
 
Lake country CCS Pads make yellow/orange/white/green/black/red/blue.

Your black pad is more of just a finishing pad for applying a straight sealant or wax. a white pad is a finishing pad which will assist in removing oxidation and bringing your vehicle back to a shine

Cross treks have some funky paint especially if its the pearl ,, I have an orange one. Well are you hoping for some correction or just to shine and seal? if you need some correction use your orange pad,, but I would say for what you have the black is what you need to use.

Make sure to tape off the luggage bars, fender trim and all the black plastic!!!! and cross treks have A LOT of plastic. I'm still trying to get some polish out of some fenders from a year ago.

As a first times please also be aware that not all companies stick to the same pad color scale. Buff and Shine is different from Lack country and not all others follow the same ratings. I do not know where Griots gets their pads so I can not help you there, but black is generally for applying sealants an stuff and red is for wax app and orange is middle correction after yellow being the heaviest. its just the ones in the middle that get a bit muddied up.
 
I would go orange since the black with the TPS wont offer much cut at all. but then again, I tend to lean toward the higher cutting pad most of the time.

Green buff and shine Pad was perfect for getting rid of light wash marring with a Griots Garage.
 
The pink CCS is also an option. I usually go for the black or white pads for cleaner waxes though.

The pink CCS is a light cutting pad. It's softer than the white, but has a more coarse, open cell foam, like the Green Hex Logic. I use these pads for most compounding applications, but in their description, the respective manufacturers say that will be suitable for all in one type of products.
