How does the Rupees with a 5mm throw compete with the flex 3401 with an 8mm throw? I thought longer throw was better so why would rupes put out a machine to compete the flex that has a smaller throw ? I don't get that.

Are the "Rupees" made in India??? The throw of the Rupes machines are either 12mm, 15mm or 21mm for the Mini, Duetto or the larger two Bigfoot machines. I don't know where you saw 5mm.

Completely different machines, forced rotation DA vs free spinning random orbital DA. Each machine has their own place.

The Mini has a 15, 21mm throw?
 
Waxmaster- the new Rupes Mille forced rotation DA has a 5mm orbit.


Tattooman- from what I heard is that the 5mm throw was to aid in smoothness. I may or may not be wrong though.

DOH!!! I forgot about the new Mille. I had "Bigfeet" on the brain. I think I was laughing about the RUPEES too much.
 
The question that is if you have a rotary where does a forced DA fit in.

My rotary is an old Milwaukee big and heavy but, it does work. I am thinking about the new Rupes I was impressed with the Duetto love it a lot over the old DA that I demoted to 3 inch pads.
 
Forgive me let me clarify. I'm talking about the rupes versus the flex both of them are forced to dual action but the rupes is a 5mm throw and they Flex is an 8 mm throw. So my point is how the rupes competes with the flex since the flex already beats the rupes in throw. That by itself doesn't make sense because the industry is going to larger throws, so something is missing in this equation.

There must be good reason because the New Makita also has a 5mm throw as well.

It's my understanding that the 5 mm throw makes the machine smoother and easier to handle. It won't take nearly as much effort to run the machine compared to the Flex. Personally I think the clockwise rotation should make it easier to control as well since every other DA polisher or sander I've ever used has spun clockwise.
