Lately there have been a lot of birds pooping on my truck and I like to remove it ASAP. I've been spraying it with bug and tar remover and wiping it away. Is this hurting the paint any? Also, does the bug and tar remover remove any protection I have on the truck? Thanks in advance :thankyousign:

I always thoroughly wash away the bug&tar remover residues from the affected area(s) ASAP; and reapply the LSP...or use a Spray Detailer/Spray Wax until then.

You should really be using some sort of waterless wash or QD for removing bird poop.

At a minimum go to a local big-box store or auto store and get a bottle of QD. Most members seem to have moved on from QD's to using waterless washes for that purpose, something like Ultima Waterless Wash Plus, Pinnacle Waterless Wash, etc.

You can also make up some QD from a rinseless wash by increasing the concentration, some have instructions on the bottle for that.

Thanks for the responses. At the moment I don't really have any product of the sort so I'll have to order a waterless wash in my next purchase.

You can get a bottle of Meg's QD at Walmart or Target or Pep Boys for probably ~$5.

This is my go-to for bird poo removal. You don't need anything stronger. It works great on fresh-ish droppings and doesn't degrade the LSP.

I save the bug and tar remover for bug splatter. Since it is a rather harsh cleaner I always go in with the assumption it will degrade the LSP. If I've used it for more than just a few small, individual spots I'll break out the spray wax in attempt to restore a little of the degraded LSP.

Make some ONR in a spray bottle keep it along with some microfibers in your vehicle. This will not scratch your car or strip any wax/LSP if used correctly.

What does ONR stand for? I'm still picking up all the abbreviations.

bingo. Opti-Clean. super duper cheap. can be used outside and inside and is loaded with stuff to keep paint safe when cleaning without water.

reco about getting a rinseless and making a quick detailer strength bottle is a good one too.

Um...I always considered Opti-Clean to be one of the more expensive waterless washes.

~$10 a gallon if you are using concentrate and buying at full retail, ~$2.50 for 32oz.

never priced it compared to other waterless washes, but that is cheap. you can't even get the crappiest QD at a store for close to that.

and imo it's class-leading in function to boot.

The Ultima and Pinnacle WW's are much cheaper, even buying only a pint of concentrate.

You ought to wipe bird poo with a qd or ww, then wipe with a baking soda/water mix to neutralize any acids, then rewipe with qd/ww, then spray wax.

ahh, ok, good to know.

Eh, whatever you like. I have a quart of the original OOC which I got really cheap ( :p ) on closeout when they came out with the improved version. I don't like it so much (maybe I'd like the current version better).

It's hard not to like the Ultima, I probably will never get to try the Pinnacle, which BTW has gone up a lot since it first came out. Of course I may have convinced them they were underpricing it with this thread: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/new-car-care-products/64742-pinnacle-waterless-new-champion.html

I use Duragloss Fast Clean & Shine.
I got it by the gallon so it's about $4.00 a bottle for me.
Cleans and puts a little sealant back down.
Available at Carquest for about $7 for 22 oz

You can use a pressure washer too. I also keep a mixture of optimum no rinse in a spay bottle, a bottle of chemical guys v7 and a bottle of pinnacle spray wax in my trunk for quick clean up when needed.
