Hello ive got a few questions. Im typing from my phone so sorry for any issues. Im starting slow cos im a rookie. Im doin fam and friends cars right now.

Im startiing out with basic wash wax and vac. And as I learn im gonna expand. Im using the optimum rinsless wash. Is that a good way do start? Also im thinking bout when im ready to start the mobile ddetailing biz starting out in parking lots to get my name out Is the a good way to start?

When I first started (about 3 months ago) I just made sure to under-promise, and over-deliver. That way client's expectations are exceeded and they'll tell their friends :)

Id' recommend getting both my how-to book and my buddy Renny Doyle's how-to book and read both a couple of times and always ask questions on the forum, that's how you learn and grow.

Thanks for all the info! I will be mobile bit to get my name out im going to do temp locations. Any suggestions on choosing a location? Also how long does it normally take to do a car with onr? And advice on how much to charge?

An ONR wash usually takes me about 30 minutes, a little more on larger vehicles.

I suggest adding Optimum Car Wax or Opti-Seal for a fast an easy upgrade to your ONR washing.

Parking lots are ok if you can get permission to do it in an automotive related business. Send some information/talk to some local auto repair shops. They might be open to it since it will create curb appeal and excitement to their business.

ONR wash, clay, followed by a cleaner wax, usually takes me around 3 hours, give or take depending on the size of the vehicle, condition etc.

Add an hour or two if the interior is involved.

Check your local council to make sure you're allowed to do such business first :)

EDIT: Also, charge what you think you're worth. I generally go about $150 for a basic but complete detail. Wash and wax about $75. I'm in Australia though, everything's a bit pricier here

Lowest overhead is something to look for... for most people starting out, it's the overhead that will hurt you the most for a brick and mortar store. Having a brick and mortar store tends to force you to become a production shop.

Read Renny's book, ask lots of questions on the forum, read lots of info on the forum and start out mobile till you're sure this is right for you before plunking down the money for a shop.

There is a ton of useful resources on this page. Read the $500 start up and i highly suggest reading Renny Doyls book. I hate reading my self but that was one of the most useful books ive ever read. IMO its a must read for any one starting a detailing business.

Thanks for all the info. Im deff gonna check the book out. Ill prob end up with tons of books.....starting to get addicted to detailing lol.

After reading all this ill deff stick mobile over fix location. Cos with my biz quality is more important then quantity

Take your time with your plan. If you rush in the chances of failure are much greater then if you wait until everything is figured out. I have had my wheels in motion since early December. I could have been up and running a few weeks after the idea but i knew if i did that i would most likely fail. What i did is got my initial plan laid out in my head then read Rennys book after that i talked to an attorney to find out legal ramifications of owning a business, got insurance quotes, attended a SCORE meeting, bought my domain name, started on my website, figured out a few other things like marketing and equipment then i stopped. I stopped thinking of it stopped researching things just stopped the whole idea and plan for a whole month. This allowed me to figure out if its exactly what i want to do and also gave me time to think of the things i didnt think of like how many details will i have to do to make a living off it how much will i need to charge to reach goals yadda yadda. This really helped me because now in my head i have most of my flaws worked out and now can go into this business venture with the right mindset and ill now be able to get my idea off the ground with little chance of failure. My method might not work for every one but for me that little break helped. Especially for me because i tend to kinda obsess over things. Hopefully my little bit of info helps you out with your business venture.

Just remember dont hesitate to ask any questions you may have. Its what we are all here for :)
