I recently got a 7424XP with some lake country pads I have read all about using it but I am afraid to use it. I would like to use a white pad with swirlx to remove some very light scratches in isolated spots so should I do the entire car or just the spots?

if I use the 7424XP on a spot say 16" X 16" and work the swirlx too long will it cause more scratches? I know I should stop when it turns clear but I am afraid I will go too long and mess up my paint. how easy is it to learn to use it I have read most all of the tips and technique but still scared to use it obviously I don't have anything to practice on.

thanks

The 7424 is about as easy to use as it gets man. You're stressing too much over it.

It is 'almost' impossible to burn paint with a DA. I say almost because it HAS happened, but only in very rare and extreme occasions.

Everyone is scared at first that is why you read, ask questions, absorb all this great info, and then you must break your fear and do hands on. When I first started I printed out "How To" articles took them outside read them a few times and went at it. You will be fine with Swirlx and the likelihood of burning the paint is the day when hell freezes over. Once you get comfortable do the whole car as you will love the results. Good luck!

Thanks I will just jump in and hope for the best

One of the most important tips I like to stress to beginners and even Pros alike, and I even remind myself and also practice as a "Best Habit" and that's to,

"Always work clean"

That means make sure your car is washed and dried and as clean as you can get it.

Sweep out your garage before starting and before parking the car in the garage so as you're working you don't stir up any dirt or dust off the floor.

Make sure you're clean, your shirt or apron, whatever you're wearing.

Make sure your hand are clean, especially when it comes to any hand procedures like claying or applying a wax or sealant by hand.

So work clean.

Next, when first starting out, turn your polisher on to the 3.0 to 4.0 setting and get a feel for how the tool reacts as you turn it on, move it around and turn it off and remove it from a panel. Don't worry about removing swirls for this introduction period, just get a good feel for the tool as it's under power.

As you become more comfortable with the tool, then put into practice the tips and techniques you've read and start by doing a test spot. Make sure you can make one small section look good before going over an entire panel and if you run into trouble come back here and let us know what you're seeing and our forum members will go above and beyond the call of duty to help see you through to success.

Also take comfort in that when Meguiar's launches a product in their Consumer Line, and especially any product for use by machine on a scratch-sensitive clear coat finish they have tested it and tested until it's 100% "Bubba-Proof".

SwirlX is very easy to work with and as long as you work clean you won't experience any problems.

Thanks Mike

HMMM!!! that should tell me a lot about myself if I mess up Ha! Ha!

On an average how many section passes can I do if work a 16X16 section with a quarter size of swirlx on a 6" pad with a 7424XP before it turns clear?

Thanks again for all the info I really appreciate it

You can do as many as needed you won't hurt anything. But remember do a pass then check, and repeat if needed. And once you get those swirls out the RIDS (random isolated deep scratches) will pop more cause they are more visible. Don't stress on those too much! :props:

Ok I went ahead and did a test spot like was suggested, but I honestly did not see a difference, at least I got it done without adding scratches or swirls. Here's what I did

1 washed the car
2 clay bar the entire car
3 used swirlx with the 7424xp to try and remove some light swirls, here's where I have a problem. I taped off a 16" square area on the hood. at first I was trying to get used to the PC so I think I used too much swirlx at speed 3. when I felt comfortable I did the bead of X spread the product over the area with the PC off then turned on the PC at speed 5 applied what I felt 15 pounds felt like (from putting it on a bathroom scale) did about 1 and 1/2 section passes ( one set of vertical and one set of horizontal at 50 % over lap maybe a inch or 2 per second) and it started spitting out small chunks of product which turned out to be dry so I stopped. I did this 4 times with a white pad and notice no visible difference.

I only have white and grey pads. I also have Ultimate Compound. What should I do next to remove the swirls. I have to look at them from different angles to see the swirls.

Am I expecting too much here? I haven't put anything else on the test spot yet.

thanks for the help
