Hello. I am a detail beginner.

I applied one coat of Collinite 845 on my car yesterday afternoon (Sunday). However, I did not shake the wax before using it… I did shake it for about 20 seconds, but I did not shake the bottle until the wax turned into soft liquid. So, I had hard time buffing it off after applying the wax.

Am I in trouble? Did I ruin the car's paint?

Do I have to start from the beginning again….? (wash, Iron X, clay bar, etc).

Or… can I just wash the car with car soap, and apply the wax correctly? I use BMW car soap.

Thanks in advance.

You should be ok. I used to use it that way until I found out about liquefying.

Thanks for the quick reply. So will I get the same amount of protection for the winter, even though I applied the wax incorrectly?

Thank you.

Your paint will be fine, if you want to you can apply a second coat after liquifying the wax properly to ensure complete coverage, and no you don't have to start over from the beginning, just make sure the paint is clean (washed/quik detailed/waterless wash etc).

Youre fine. But next, the way i do it is, set it out in the sun right when you begin the detail. The wax needs to heat up in order to liquefy. Putting it in the sink with hot water will also work to liquefy the wax.

If you were able to remove all the residue i wouldn't worry. As others have suggested just warm it up or shake it up next time and apply it thin.

No Matter how you used any of the Collinite waxes, there's no way you'll ever have to worry about "Ruining your Paint". Unless you went to cure-dry the wax with a Blow Torch!

Collinite 845 is not a product that I've ever witnessed separating in the bottle, it stays properly mixed. It is thickish when first bought, and a good shake helps liquify it is all.

As time passes it may again get seemingly thick, and again a simple good shake is all it takes to be back in business again.

I suspect the one sole reason you had difficulty in removing it was too liberal-thick an application.

Once well shaken, and liquefied, one can probably apply to an entire vehicle like a BMW, and not use more than a 1/3rd, to 1/2 oz of product.

If you have noted any unevenness of finish, simply apply again. Always work in the shade on cool clean paint, never in the sun.

I just used 845 on my Kia this afternoon, it looks killer!

I have a couple of other questions.

I am planning to wash the car (hand-wash, of course) tomorrow evening (Thursday). And my car went through a light rain last Friday when the car was a bit dusty. Is my wax ruined if I leave the car dirty/unwashed for almost a week? How soon should I clean the car to maximize the wax's protection?

I am also planning to apply Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax after the hand-wash. Will this strip off the layer of Collinite wax I applied? Or will this add more protection + shine?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen at lest a hundred posts on this exact same subject.........are directions out the window these days? I just don't get it.

I wouldn't worry about ruining 845, it is about the most bullet-proof wax/sealant there is. In fact, trying to remove it intentionally/completely is more problematic. The Collinite paste waxes are even more durable, but all are remarkable, and an outstanding value. Always have been.

If you're not going to be helpful, don't bother posting.

Next time someone asks me for direction, I'll reply: "Why didn't you search where you were going when you left your place? Are your really that stupid? I don't know how many times people asked me where that place is. Even if I know where it is, I am not telling you. It's your problem, not mine. You deserve to get lost, and die while your children watch."

Just clean the car when it gets dirty. Collinite is very durable.
Your wax isn't ruined and should last for a couple a few months with regular washes, etc.
It all depends how obsessive you are. I would do mine more often if I had the time and warmth all year.
I use the Ultimate Quik wax as a drying aid first(misting the car with UQW after final rinse) then I dry with a Cobra Guzzler waffle weave. Then maybe a touch-up with Ultimate detailer spray to even it out.

The purpose of a good wax is partially so you DON'T have to wash every day, because the paint is being protected by the wax. Washing your car and applying a layer of UQW will do nothing to harm the collinite, like mentioned, collinite is one of the most underrated products out there and it's really hard to "hurt."
