Questions regarding Opti Coat

What are his stipulations on the 2 year. He maintain it including washes ? Or does he redo it free if it doesn't last 2 years? What kind of loop hole will he pin on you taking care of it if you aren't happy ? These are questions you need to find out. Also see some of his work in person over a few days to see if you are happy with his correction level

Uhh... Never thought of things like that yet lol. At least the detailer is popular among car forums. And I've seen some of his works posted on various car forums. They look really good to me, and the posters seem satisfied as well.

Well, the detailer said he offers warranty on Opti Coat. Not sure whether the warranty is from the company or himself, but I'll get that clarified. And do detailers normally throw in free car washes as a part of agreement...? A couple of posters on this thread (including yourself) seem to have implied it. Even if they do, I want to wash my car myself.

"What kind of loop hole will he pin on you taking care of it if you aren't happy ?"

Well, then I'll come back to this thread for advice lol.

PM me your address and I will send you a gift !!

OP - $700 seems like a very fair price (even low!) if it includes a full correction and wheels.

It will not yellow at all and I don't think you will notice any difference vs. Cquartz. They are both great products!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your reply!

Opticoat is guaranteed for 5 years. What is this 2 year crap? Find out if he's using a pro coating or if he's just using optimum glosscoat.

Uhh... What's the difference between actual Opti Coat and Optimum Opti-Glass Coating...? I think he was referring to Opti Glass Coating. It could have been misunderstanding on my part due to lack of product knowledge..

Do all the answers to my original post also apply to Opti-Glass Coating? I feel so dumb right now...

This is why I mentioned to re-read my post on the claims of longevity of each optimum coating. I suggest you do that.

Yes it does.

Yes it does.

I've read the comparison on this webpage: http://opticoat-pro.com/opti-coat-pro-vs-glass-coatings/

Sounds like glass coating is inferior in many different ways...

Information regarding Opti-Glass Coating on car forums seems very scarce as almost everyone seems to opt for "actual" Opti Coat... My detailer quoted me $1200 for the "Pro" version . I was originally going to spend $400, but now that is way over budget

Gloss Coat (not glass coating) is their entry level coating aimed to the consumer. Optimum claims it to last up to 2 years even though it's a 3 coating. It is a hybrid coating that contains a little bit of pro. Pro and Pro+ are installed by an authorized installer. Pro is claimed to be a 5 year coating and Pro+ is claimed to be a 7 year coating.

Have you considered doing the work on your own and applying one of the many coatings sold through Autogeek.

That's why originally I figured you were going to spend about 1200 to 1400 dollars for opticoat pro. I don't know if it's worth 400 dollars to apply glosscoat when you can do it yourself. Heck I'm doing it right now.

I would love to do it myself, but I have no experience with polishing/compounding....

My original budget, or at least how much I thought paint correction would cost, was $400 (1-step paint correction is actually in that area though...). The detailer quoted me $700 for two-step correction and Opti Glass Coat. Then the "actual" Opti Coat is $1200. Lol

It's not that hard to learn. You could even start with McKee's 37 paint coating for $35 even if it only lasts a year on top of the polishes and tools needed.

Ya its not too difficult. It takes up but that's basically it
You'd have to decide whether or not you'd value your time more or money more.

Yeah... It's easy until I burn the paint, and I need to spend hundreds of dollars to fix it...

What kind of car is it? Generally ya a two step correction and consumer coating will cost you around 700 in Toronto. Glosscoat on its own is over 110 dollars after taxes so the paint correction will be just over 500. With a budget of 400 and wanting a coating, you would have to do it yourself and even the to get a polisher, number of pads, and a coating it'll run you over 400 with the prices here. Maybe consider the one step and a coating to go with it. For 400 I would do a one step plus a coating but you'd only get a one step.

Well, to summarize what I went through so far:

1. Too lazy to detail my car this summer. Cleaning my room took 2 months (yes.. I'm ultra OCD), and I don't have any energy left to detail the car any way. This year will mark 7th anniversary of delivery of my car, so I decided to treat my special one to a very luxurious spa... From what I gathered, it would cost around $400. I've detailed my car religiously for the past 7 years, so no major paint correction would be needed.

2. I found a reputable detailer in Toronto after researching various car forums. I briefly met up with him. And I was informed he doesn't wax cars anymore, and he hasn't waxed a car in the past 5 years. He uses coating products only (during our conversation it was referred to as "Opti Coat"). He informed me that my car would need 2-step correction, which would cost $700. He said 1-step will only be 70% perfect for my paint... Due to my skeptical view towards "Opti Coat," I decided to do some research first

3. I created this thread to ask about shine, maintenance, etc regarding "Opti Coat."

4. I was still leaning towards conventional sealant + wax combo, but after reading many convincing comments and insights from several posters, I went from skeptic to believer.

5. After reading a poster's comment on expected longevity, I realize there is a difference between "Opti Coat" and "Opti Glass Coating," and the detailer was referring to "Opti Glass Coating" during our conversation.

6. I've done some research on the difference between the two. "Opti Glass Coating" is inferior in every way. Even Optimum's website proudly states it is inferior to actual "Opti Coat."

7. My detailer informed me 2-stage correction with Opti Coat would cost $1200.

8. I'm lost... Lol. Opti Coat sounds very tempting due to strong protection and reduced maintenance for the next 5 years or so... But that price though... Wax and sealant will give deep wet glossy shine I want. But I have to detail the car myself, and I am still recovering from cleaning my room... I haven't detailed my car since October 2016, so I really need to get my car detailed soon.

I guess I'll try 1-step with Opti Glass Coating. Even though it doesn't remove all the swirls, my car will look better. And even though I don't get the actual "Opti Coat," at least I won't have to invest too much time in detailing my car for the next 2 years. So I'll be able to spend my free time on something more valuable... like social life...
